Additionally, check the Brake Light Switch, as it will malfunction,and not let the
shift interlock safety feature operate, You can sometimes check to see
if your brake lights are operating, if they don't work or if they are on
constantly, the switch is the culprit.
Verify that the switch operating lever fingers are centered in the switch opening in the case when in P and N .
Install a new seal and screw the switch on the case. Tighten to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm). Be sure the new seal has seated properly between the switch and the transaxle housing or a fluid leak could result.
Check the continuity of the switch, at the 2 outer terminal pins, for proper operation. Reconnect the electrical connector.
Lower the vehicle and check the transmission fluid level. Add if necessary.
Reconnect the negative battery cable and check the switch for proper operation.
