Leviton White Decora Rocker Switch & Receptacle 5625-w Logo
Posted on Sep 04, 2011

We have Leviton Decora switches throughout our house. Some of the lights flicker, and have since the house was built 4 yrs ago. When they flicker the switch makes the same sound that it does if, when the light is on, you press the "off" side of the switch, but not firmly enough to turn it off. Are these switches defective? Also, what do I press where it says "press to release wire"? Thank you.

Several questions here.

1) Lights should not flicker and switch should not make sound (or get unusually warm)
2) You should not have to 'press hard' to get switch to turn off.
3) Are the switches defective. YES. Remove and replace with ordinary toggle switch and see if flickering and sound-making continue. If problems continue, maybe local electrician should assess problem on-site.
4) Press to Release. You are speaking about wires connected on back of switch using 'quick-connects.'
Wire is pushed into a hole where wire is wedged against brass spring and held tight.
To release wire there is usually a hole or slot next to wire. Push small screwdriver into opening. Usually you have to push screwdriver very hard using one hand while other hand holds switch. Then use your additional hand to pull out wire. Or you can clip wire off and then strip back insulation and start fresh on new switch.
5) Builder electricians sometimes buy super cheap brand knock-offs that are not UL rated. Do not think all Leviton products lack quality. Buy new switches at local home center, and new switches will work fine.
6) When replacing switches, pay attention to screw-color that sits next to quick connect. Take a photo before removing all wires.
Screw colors tell electrician how to wire a device, and you can post new question at fixya, or add a comment for specific help.

How do I hook up a Leviton Decora no 5601... I have a white, a red, and a black wire

Wiring is unclear without more information.

Question posted under 4-way switch.
Wiring sounds like 3-way switch is possible.
And Leviton 5601 is single pole switch.

Add a comment and say what load the switch controls. Load means light, fan, motor, etc.
Say if another switch controls same load.
And include what type of device you are replacing.
Include what screws and screw colors are on old device.

When you add a comment, it sends email, and I will respond to comment.

We have Leviton push button slide dimmers w/the locate lights for power outlets and lights throughout our house. A couple of months ago one stopped working...you push the button to turn it on and it...

Wiring is not best suspect.
If all the Leviton devices were installed same time, they may be failing at same time due to lifespan.
For example, ordinary on-off switch is a mechanical device with mechanical parts, and mechanical switches last many years longer than wiring devices that have electronic parts.
Electronic devices usually have standard 1 year limited warranty.

Touch dimmer malfunction

sounds like a loose connection to me, check to make sure all connections are tight. sometimes the bulbs themselves don't make a good connection in there socket.

u will have to take the switches out of the wall box and make sure the wires are tight, whether they are on screws or wires connected to wires. if it is wires to wires u may have to take that apart to make sure u don't have a bad connection there.

if it is none of that, then it is time to replace the switches

Leviton slide dimmer switch w/locator light light comes on but doesnt dim

What sort of light is it , dimmer switches normally only work on Incandescent type lights not flourescent type.

Otherwise it sounds as if the dimmer function is faulty.
