Problem:
Print head jams when trying to return from first pass at left end of carriage when starting to print
general error message, (delete all print jobs and turn printer off, etc)
There are no foreign objects or visible problems
Red Ink error light comes on and is non flashing, red paper light and green printer light start flashing.
Turn printer off, then on,
paper feeds halfway,
red error lights go out,
print head slowly crawls back to start,
paper ejects,
printhead makes one pass to end of carriage, returns and parks,
printer light stays on non flashing, no error lights.
I have left it disconnected, I have tried re-installing, nothing successful, same error repeats. It first arose after re-alignment process. Cartridges are in correctly.
Techman: Interesting site, I agree about the ink drinking, just hoped there may be a magic quick fix, like a secret mfr. re-set button or the like......., anyway, guess it will have to go to the Epson graveyard.Techman: Interesting site, I agree about the ink drinking, just hoped there may be a magic quick fix, like a secret mfr. re-set button or the like.......,

Check the LCD on your printer control panel or the status monitor on your computer for an error message. If there is an error message, follow the instructions to clear it.
If there is no error message, or if the problem continues:
Open the access door.
Disconnect the power adapter from the back of the printer.
CAUTION: Do not use force on the printhead carriage to move it. Gently move the printhead carriage from side to side to see that it moves freely and there are no obstructions.
Remove any obstructions that may prevent the printhead carriage and ink cartridges from moving to the center position.
Close the access door.
Connect the power adapter to the printer.
Remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
Verify that the labels on the ink cartridges are intact, and that the cartridges are not damaged.
firmly until you hear it click into position.
Insert the color ink cartridge into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear it click into position.
The
Carriage Jam
error message displays on the control panel display. The print
carriage, which holds the ink cartridges, stalls against the left side
of the printer. A paper jam might have occurred previously.
Any malfunctions its gives error 'E'... Check paper jam, carriage struck, cartridges faulty and service related issues.checking carriage:Switch on the machine check carriage(the unit carrying print heads)moving left & right.. if its not moving, it might be struck in service station(service station located at right end and its allow carriage to rest on it during shut down as well as its cleans the print head nozzles). power the machine pull carriage out gently, don't force it..Clean encoder strip: Encoder is located back side of the carriage and its guides carriage to move properly, if encoder became dirty you will get error message, clean encoder with smooth cotton cloth.
If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.
Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Sorry about the B.S., you can move the carriage by hand, and all you need is to clean the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. You can wipe the strip gently with an alcohol swab or a Q-tip moist with alcohol. The bars on that strip tell the carriage where it is and grease or ink on it will give the carriage jam error. No calibration necessary after moving the head or cleaning the strip.
The print head is stuck - something has jammed it and the noise you are hearing is the carriage for the print head. Open the top and try moving the head by head sideways to see what has jammed it.

My son wiped down the metalic strip that tells the carriage where it is. It worked for a couple of days and then the "carriage jam" message came back.
I took my 7210 apart, found
nothing wrong with it and put it back together. I noticed that if I
pushed the print carriage all the way to the left, closed the lid, and
pressed "OK", the print carriage would move a couple of inches to the
right. It did this repeatedly. I figured the motor was working, but
there was too much friction on the carriage. I put some 3-in-one oil on
my finger and put a thin coat on the front, top, and back of the rod
that the print carriage rides on. I then ran the carriage back and
forth about 20 times. I closed the lid and it works fine.
I had the same problem with my DVD player. The head was hanging up on
the two chrome plated rods that supported the head. I put some 3-in-one
oil on the rods, ran the head back and forth, and it has worked ever
since.
I have an Hp Officejet 5110. I have an error message saying "Open door, clear carriage jam, then press enter". But where is its door? How can I clear the carriage jam?
I tried pressing the # & 6 at the same time, but the error message still there.
