Why is my Kenmore Energy Star 50 pint model 251-50501012 dehumidifier leaking water after I disconnected the drain hose

If you reconnect the drain hose, make sure that it lays flat from the dehumidifier and into the sump pump hole. I did that and it solved my problem of water leaking onto the floor.

When I connect a hose to the dehumidifier, it doesn't pull the water out and send it to the sump pump -- it goes directly into the bucket......do I need a special connection for the hose or something? ...

Patti, the problem is not the drain hose (unless it's clogged or exceeds 48" in length). The internal drain tubing to the hose connection is clogged. When this happens, water is diverted to the water collection bucket. To unclog the tubing do the following:

Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hose connection hole and tubing. Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will need to gingerly work the Zip Tie past this bend, until it either bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly pull the Zip Tie back out while rotating (twisting) it. This will breakup any clogs. As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared, as some water may follow. Reconnect the hose, plug the unit in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run, while you monitor it for water flow. It may take 10 to 15 minutes for the water to start flowing, so be patient.

I hop the helps you, Patti and thanks for choosing FixYa.

The 54701 Kenmore Dehumidifier runs and sounds normal, fan running, compressor on. However , it doesnt collect any water whether a hose is connected or just the bucket. No icing up or any weird noise...

Yes, if the compressor needs to be recharged, a service technician can do it.

In the meantime, try lowering the humidity extraction level to 35%. You may have the extraction level set to high.

Hope this helped you. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Water on floor after dehumidifier runs for about one half hour either directly drained to sump pump hole or bucket.

Remove the water collection bucket and look up inside the bucket holder cavity. You will see either a drain hole or small tubing that drains the water into the bucket. Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hole or tubing. Reinstall the bucket, plug the unit in and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run, while you monitor it for any leakage.

NOTE: If you don't have a Zip Tie, you may use something similar ( i.e.a long pipe cleaner), but NO wire coat hangers, though.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot & solve the problem.

Water leaks out of the bottom of the humidifier and the bucket does not fill up. The water just leaks out.

Based upon my experience with the same problem on my Kenmore 54701 last summer: The condensate water collects in a plastic pan below the coils. This pan has a single drain hole where the water flows down into the bucket. When I suddenly found water puddling on the floor instead of in the bucket, I opened up the unit, and I found that the collection pan's drain hole had become blocked by "bioslime". I cleaned out the goo from the drain hole, and the problem was solved.

50 pint dehumidifier has drain hose connected but fills up the drain bucket and stops running....

safety switch is turning off the dehumidifier....you need to drain out the bucket more often....or put the drain hose into an actual drain....ive seen some people run a small plastic hose from the dehumidifier to the sump pump hole in their basement.

Dehumdifier won't drain

You just need to get the water flowing and start the siphoning process by taking out the water bucket while it's full of water and raising it up high enough to start the water flowing. Once the water starts flowing, you can put the bucket back and the water will keep flowing (by capillary action). If the bucket empties completely, you may have to do it again periodically to get the water flowing again.

Kenmore 54701 (70 pint) dehumidifier stopped running

the lowest setting for % of humidity is 35% on that unit... sounds like with all the other errors that the IC board is bad (the Control circuit board behind the displays)
