I have cyberlink Power Backup on my computer running on windows vista. I tried restoring a file the other day back into its original location. It was not visible on Explorer but when I did a search I was told it was there but I could not open it. I also tried creating another folder and restoring it into that folder which seemed to work (although I never opened the file) but when I closed explorer and opened it up again the folder had disappeared. I tried recreating the folder with the same name and I was told that a folder already exists with that name and do you want to merge them. Whether I answer yes or no the new folder instantly disappears. How can I restore my files?

Eortiz, did you try to read the files with a windows PC? Because when you connect the external drive to a PC you should be able to view the files and even be able to change the attributes like read only and hidden.

How to you do a factory restore for windows vista

Computer users restore their operating systems for several reasons, such as the presence of corrupted files and to return the registry to its original state. This removes third-party software that consumes valuable memory space and also rids the PC of malware and spyware. Windows Vista, although not the most popular Windows operating system, offered users the Vista Business Edition and the Vista Enterprise Edition, both designed for use by businesses or individuals.

Click the Vista Start button to open the Start menu and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Maintenance" followed by "Back Up and Restore Center." Click "Back Up Files" followed by "Continue." If prompted for an administrative password, enter the password and click "Continue." This opens the Where Do You Want To Save Your Back Up? page. Check the radio button to indicate where to save your back up data. Options include "On a Hard Disk, CD or DVD" and "On a Network." Click "Next." This opens the Which Files Do You Want To Back Up? page. If you chose hard disk, you must save the backup to an external drive, such as USB hard drive or flash drive. Check the radio buttons corresponding with the types of file you want to save and click "Next." Click "Save settings and start backup." Continue when the Backup Complete message displays. b> Restore b> Remove all peripherals from your computer, such as scanners, faxes and printers. Do not remove the keyboard, monitor or mouse. Power down your PC. After shutdown, power it up. Hold the "F8" key during startup before the Windows logo appears on the screen until the Advanced Boot Options menu displays. Select "Repair your Computer" using the down arrow on your keyboard and press "Enter." Choose your language setting and click "Next." Log in as the user that holds administrative credentials and click "OK." Your computer manufacturer will offer you the option of restoring to factory settings. For instance, if restoring Vista on a Dell, you must select "Dell Factory Image Restore" and click "Next." On other computers, click "Next" after choosing to restore to factory settings. Select "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" if using a Dell.

If using another computer, select a comparable choice, such as "Reformat the hard drive and operating system to factory condition." Click "Next." Click "Finish" when the restoration is complete.

  3. Restore the computer's software to original condition.

Dell has designed two new backup and restore programs.
Dell Inspiron, Studio, and XPS computers use DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 as the PC Restore/Factory Image Restore option as of April 22, 2009.
Dell OptiPlex, Latitude, Vostro, and Precision computers use Dell Backup and Recovery Manager as the PC Restore/Factory Image Restore option as of May 26, 2009.

Backup will save the files in the background and may take several minutes to complete. If you specified a removable drive, Backup may prompt you to enter an additional blank disc if more than one is necessary to hold all your files. Be sure to label your discs thoroughly (such as "My Files Disc 1" etc.) so you can quickly restore them later.
Once the Backup Complete message appears, you are ready to proceed with the next step.

Backup and recovery

Delete the System Recovery Files folder located at C:\System Recovery Files then try to run the backup.1.exe program again. I also found the you have to have the Backup.2.fbw file burned to a DVD before it will restore the files.

Restoring files from the database

I suggest you use the Enterprise manager (gui tool to manage SQL).
Restoring a single table is not an option.
You can however restore a file or filegroup.
Make sure to backup before you start and NOT to restore database to its original name or original file location, to avoid acidents.
Normally you will have databases with only 2 files: the data at its Primary file group, and log file.
You may wish to create a new file group and move tables to the new group by recreating them there and exporting data from old table to new table. Then recreate indexes. This may prove to be complex as all tables and indexes have unique names and can't coexist with exact duplicate of them.

oh yea..... did I say backup?
well just in case backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup backup
but dont overwrite that backup
