I have a magic chef mccf10wmd chest freezer, the compressor light stays on, it cycles like it wants to turn on, but nothing and the it just kicks off, leaving the light still on, on the on side there is a area for ventalation, so i removed that cover and the compressor area is very clean and pretty much dust free, is this just a compressor that went bad,,,,,or what should I look for

Could be your thermostat is bad and not calling for the compressor to come on. If you are able see if there is power getting to the compressor. If not then back track to where you are loosing power (thermostat) etc.
I not 100% sure but believe this is the power light so it should remain on when the freezer calls for cooling and go off when satisfied. If the chest wont stay cold then it sounds like the stat is gone. If it is digital, there may be a power card issue but most chest freezers are run on a standard thermostat with the capillary running up into the base of the unit.

Check condensor not clogged up, fan working etc. If all ok, try new capacitor and relay. If all else fails, replace freezer (compressor replacement is costly)
The red light indicates temperature zone crucial. Listen for the sound of the compressor. If it's on and appears to be running, check the condenser to see if it is warm. If so, a faulty compressor may be the problem.
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...
Had the same problem for the same unit. In my case, the theromostat was sticking. Mine was still under warranty so I called Magic Chef, who in turn gave me to a local repair person. In order to save him time to travel out for a diagnosis, he asked me to tap on the control to see if the run light comes on. Sure enough the run light came on and cooled the freezer. Try tapping on the unit control to see if it kicks on. My email address is [email protected]. I'd like to know if it works.
