Philipstv constantly flickers from light dark colour very poor

Quit in the middle of program. will not turn back on.

If it does this watching a dvd it could be somthing called macrovision copy guard. One of the things copyguard does is put colored bands into the image or it will get light and dark every few seconds during the entire movie.

Could be an intermittant connection on the picture tube curcuit board,or a bad picture tube, a bad flyback xformer,or a bad b+ capacitor off the flyback that controls the driver transistors on the crt board. Good Luck
