Phone's "Status Light" Not Illuminating or Battery Failing to Charge

  • 1.Check that the base unit's AC adapter is plugged into the both the base unit and electrical outlet firmly.

  • 2.Wipe the base unit's handset holder's connectors and the connectors on the bottom of the handset with a soft cloth/rag or pencil eraser to remove any loose dust and dirt from the metal connectors.

  • 3.Place the handset firmly in the base unit holder until the "Status Light" illuminates, indicating the battery is charging.
4.Replace your Uniden cordless phone's battery, by purchasing a compatible battery from an electronic supply store or directly from Uniden. Turn your phone's handset unit over and remove its battery door. Lift the phone's battery pack up and gently unplug the battery's wire connector by pressing in on the connector's side and pulling the connector free from the phone's circuit board. Battery installation is the reverse of removal.

I need a rechargeable battery for a Uniden Portable VHF HH985 RADIO.

Hi. You'll find that difficult to get as the Ni-cad technology is pretty much obsolete.
You could rebuild the battery pack with equivalent sized Ni-MH cells if you can get into it or look for the Alkaline battery holder (GHDZ34956Z) and use rechargeable cells in that. Maybe contact Uniden directly.

I want change battery uniden cordless phone. I staying anand Gujarat India. Where is near service centre address and contect number. Hitesh shah

Sorry can't help with the service centre details but cordless phones mostly use standard type rechargeable batteries or battery packs that are easily replaceable and commercially available from various manufacturers and available from various outlets.

I suggest you extract the battery pack from your phone and browse ebay or Amazon until you find one that looks the same, using any type or part numbers to help.

If you really want to contact a service centre, these are often listed in the instruction manual or there is a variety of Uniden websites.

I have an older Uniden PowerMax 5.8 and the handsets are old and one is held together with tape. The second hand set was rained on yesterday. It was sorta working but I worried i would short it out if I...

    Hello, Terrie.

Sorry for the delay in responding - time zone difference.

First, let's see if we can fix your handset (from Uniden):

    1. Remove the battery cover and leave it off for ventilation.

    2. Remove the battery pack by disconnecting.

    3. Leave the battery cover off and the battery pack disconnected for at least 3 days.

    4. Once completely dry, reconnect the battery pack and the battery cover.

    5. Recharge the handsset's battery pack for 20 hours in the base unit before using the phone. IMPORTANT: You must unplug the telephone line while recharging the battery pack
    to avoid charge interruption.

I believe there is a way to export your phone book to another handset, but not without reviving your original phone. Unlike a cell phone, there is no memory card to remove and transfer.

    Let me know what happens.

    Hope this helps.

My Uniden phone will not charge up, even when it is on the charger it says, set on charger, battery low.

First open the handset and disconnect the battery. Then reconnect the battery (just in case the connection is loose). Make sure that the battery is in the handset in the correct orientation.

How old is the battery in the handset? After a year (frequently), the battery must be replaced. This time includes the length of time the battery was in storage before you received it. If you add a comment with the model of the Uniden phone, I will be glad to provide additional information on the cost of the replacement.

If the battery is new, then the charger may have failed. (I have seen this with many rechargeable devices.) Make sure the contacts are clean. However you may need to replace the charger. Again I need the model number to check if additional handsets are still available for the phone.

If your phone is under warranty, contact Uniden for repair/replacement of either the battery or the charger, as needed. Start at http://www.uniden.com .

    I hope this helps.

Phone battary is out of order & where shall i get it in India or in NZ

UNIDEN USE 800 MAH RECHARGEABLE CELLS (3 X 1.2 VOLT = 3.6 VOLTS) IN THEIR BATTERY. SIMPLEST SOLUTION IS TO CATCH HOLD OF THREE AAA RECHARGEABLE CELLS OF 900 MAH RATING OF ANY GOOD COMPANY AND ASK YOUR HOBBYIST FRIEND TO SOLDER THEM IN SERIES AND USE THE CONNECTION TAG FROM THE OLD BATTERY - RED WIRE TO POSITIVE AND BLACK TO NEGATIVE TERMINALS OF THE NEWLY SOLDERED BATTERY. CELLOTAPE THE THREE CELLS TO HOLD THEM TOGETHER. HOPE IT HELPS.

My uniden cordless phone is not recharging, even tho i bought today a new battery at 17 dollars a pop at radio shack. the regular part of the phone unit with the answering machine on it works fine, help???

Your phone charger is shot. New batteries will not help if your battery heats up during charge or stays hot when left on charge. If the battery never gets warm and your charge light doesn't come on then it is a different problem. The phone manufacturer suggests you buy a new phone.

Uniden cordless handsets don't hold charge

Have you tried replacing the batterys with new rechargables? if not open up the back and replace old batterys with new ones, just see if it works with a normal non rechargable batterys if it does buy some new rechargable, other than that your base i.e. charger may be faulty most likely it is the batterys.

    New battery is not charging

size and shape of rechargeable battery packs are not an indicator of the voltage, it is possible that the identical looking battery has two cells in each tube so is 7.2v instead of 3.6v
    do the specs match
