How old is your computer
if your computer is asking for a driver when you insert the windows 7 disc your motherboard might not support windows 7 if its older than 5-6 yrs also you need a minimum of 2 GB of ram to support windows 7
hope this helps you
1st thing, when asked, choose advanced installation and delete all partitions before installing Windows 7. The problem is that you need to visit the laptop's manufacturer. The driver you need is for the SATA hard drive interface. Using another internet enabled computer download all drivers that are compatible with your system (utilities also if you wish to make it look and operate more like original), this could also include Vista drivers as they should also work. Copy them to a pen drive and have them ready to transfer the files to the laptop. One driver package will have a special system file (sys) to use when Windows install asks for it. It may be called the DOS boot file or something similar. When you start Windows installation with a DVD, it will flash on the bottom of the screen a message to press F3 or different F key if you have additional drivers, do this and have the USB drive pluged in and ready, you will soon need to indicate the path to the drive and the SYS file so Windows can recognize your hardware in order to install correctly. This is a one time thing - just when you install the first time. Windows will go on and install normally now. After Windows has installed and rebooted and configured, install each driver package (previously downloaded) one, one by one and restart the machine each time you are asked.
Once all drivers are installed, the DVD drive and everything will be working and you can download updates from Microsoft. RAM... no problem, Windows 7 will install and run on 512 mb.
