My grandson's leapster explorer displayed a screen requesting that the unit be connected to the computer. I installed the leapfrog connect and plugged the unit to the computer. The unit was recognized and leapconnect displayed a message that it was tuning up the unit. Upon completion we disconnected and he was able to play his game for a few minutes then the connect screen was displayed again. This time leapconnect would begin and then stop responding. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall using the up to date version of leapfrog connect and still it stops responding. Now the unit is useless and both my grandson and I are not happy. If anyone has a solution please share!

Hi,
Seems that the console has experienced corruption on the unit, If the reformatting did not do anything to fix the problem then something is wrong with the unit, How long did your grandson have the unit? if it still in warranty better contact Leapfrog for further info possible they can have the unit serviced or replaced with the issue.

After checking most anything related to the issue it shows that the unit is most likely a lemon as they say busted, seems something has failed in the unit that may have caused it to malfunction, or it is possible that when it asked to be connected to the computer and when the updates was done possible it may have downloaded a corrupted file that can be a cause of the failure.
Call Leapfrog so they can check what happened during the download.
Here are Error Messages see the list and see more info what could have caused the issue.
Unless there is another way of resetting the unit

Leapster explorer says memory full but it's not

1) Please run the LeapFrog Utility http://lfccontent.leapfrog.com/cs/utilities/LeapFrog_Connect_Utility.exe
2) Select "Clear LeapFrog Connect User Data"
3) Start the LeapFrog Connect application and wait until the message center indicates that all Leapster Explorer Updates have been downloaded.
4) Power on and plug in your Leapster Explorer.

I gave my son a leapster explorer about a month now and it's volume just stopped working and it wont hear anything.

Hello,
there are three basic reasons why the leapster explorer won't bring out sound.
1. Defective speaker
The speaker of your leapster explorer maybe defective, this can make it not bring out any sound. Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the speaker part, test the speaker with a AA battery. If you hear any sound using the battery, then it means there is nothing wrong with the speaker.
2. Loose wire connection
Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the wires connecting the speaker to the board. Check for any wire cut, or loose connection which can cause the speaker not to bring out sound. . 3. Sound IC/Card/Board
If non of the above is the cause of the problem, then it means the leapster explorer is having a defective sound ic/board/card. There is an IC on the board of the leapster explorer which is responsible for sound. If this ic has a shot, there won't be any sound. If this be the cause, I think it's high time to took the leapster explorer to a repairman because this requires skill.

There was a problem when I downloaded my free game onto my brand new leapster - and now I don't have it on my leapster and I can't choose it again to download

Instead of 1 starter game and a few demo game that you get from Leapfrog Connect, you can also get more downloadable games for your Leapster 2. You can get it here:

But you have to make sure your Leapster 2 have SD Card and your Leapster 2 can connect to PC using Leapfrog connect. Try to uninstall and re-install the LeapFrog Connect and wait until it finish configuring and updated the software both on the PC and the console, It may takes 10-20 mins for it to complete updating.

One more thing, you have to make sure that you get latest LeapFrog Connect software from LeapFrog website instead of installing it from supplied CD.

I have just brought a leapster 2 . the download says it is syncing but then does not show on the handheld. just says your downloads have a problem

You need to re-connect your Leapster 2 to your PC. You have to make sure that the software is already updated both in the PC and in the console. Try to uninstall and re-install the LeapFrog Connect and wait until the software has been configured and update automatically which is until you see the status in LeapFrog Connect screen is "connected". You need to wait at least 10-20 mins for it to be completed I'm afraid.

One more thing, make sure you get the latest LeapFrog Connect Software from LeapFrog website instead of installing it from the supplied CD.

Leapstar turns on but when you go to sleet name on screen it nor working it displays anmed but will no proceed when using pen to tap screen

Try to uninstall and re-install the LeapFrog Connect. Make sure you got the latest software form Leapfrog Website instead of install it from the CD supplied from the original box.

The touch screen no longer works on my grandsons' 5-month old leapster. Does the warranty cover that?

Likely, yes. call leapfrog, and ask. However, most warranties do not cover abuse or accidents. If your grandson did something or dropped it, the warranty will not cover that.
