Dear, i want to re-install windows operating system in my Sharp PC-MM1110 laptop.. I have an external DVD writer... i connect the cable change the bios setting to enable boot from USB but it does boot..... i made several changes into bios settings but same thing... would anyone suggest any usefull tip to get it work?

first check to be sure you have a dvd writer and not a cd writer-dvd rom combo .., cause in this case it is obvious why its not burning dvd-es..
Another thing take a look and see if you have a dvd burner into your operation system ..Usually windows 7 have a dvd burner and it burns them without any program to assist it .. but if it is defective or you can not operate it .. just download and install a dvd burner .. like Nero .. and try again ..
In the last case try to reinstall the operation system if you have a hunch that it may be something wrong with it .. and if is still not working change the optical unit and will work

if you are connecting a external dvd writer assumably via usb i dont think you need drivers as
windows should normally find and load the dvd writer when connected to the usb

if this is the case
please try at least 2 different usb sockets

leave the writer in the usb and do a restart
if windows still do not reconise the writer
please go to device manager
go up to the top to the tabs
and hover your mouse over them until you find the one that says
scan for new hardware
then click the scan for new hardware
windows may or may not at this stage reconize the writer
then leaving it pluged in do another restart
and hopefully windows should now reconize the writer

You just need to simply plug the one end (USB Type B) of the USB cable to the external DVD writer then plug the other end (USB Type A) to your notebook. Then, let your Operating System to automatically install the driver for your DVD writer. Let me know if this works.

Yes you can use a usb external cd/dvd-rom to any operating system as long as the bios allows you to, most bios's have the capability.

When the external usb drive has been connected power up the mechine, in post it should tell what to press to enter your boot menu without entering your bios and choose usb drive to boot.

Your hard drive went bad. It seems that the kernel and some sectors on it unable to accept any data for installation. Try to use a Partition Magic software before installing Windows operating system by doing the format manually. Then you can install you Windows operating system that you want. Thank you.

Installing windows in Personal Computer are needed Bootable at CD/DVD Drive. Your problem is you don't have any CD/DVD Drive.

Use a Portable External CD/DVD Drive.

It's available in the market.

i am quite sure its something with the cables conected.. how old is the computer?

You would be able to boot from the external drive but you will not be able to run an operating system from it. It would allow you to install another operating system if that is what you mean? If i understand you correctly though, you would like to say perhaps, have windows xp on your laptop and maybe run windows vista on your external? Maybe get to choose which one to run. This is not possible. Sorry. I hope this helps!
