Tascam mf p-01 portastudio

This is a four track tape recorder used for home recording. The problem: the tape advances normally but there is no output (through both rca and headphone outputs) other than a hiss that varies when the volume and pan knobs are adjusted.

This reply is *very* late, but might help someone with the same problem. My Tascam MF P01 also would not play back on any of the channels but would record. The problem was on the lower board, capacitors C105, C205, C305 and C405, all are 220uF, rated at 10V - on a 9V machine... which meant all four eventually degraded and let DC through to the next op-amp.
I replaced all four capacitors with replacements rated at 25V ... and it now works again.

Hi sounds like a worng channel or no output from something check the tape output's for anything if there is sound but bad or low then the tape is the problem if it's good then check that the cable connection is good (connect it to a reciver) then if all is good till the unit: check that you are listening to the right channel check that your output device is good (headphones, speakers) (connect it to a reciver) good luck

Can I record on more than two tracks at one time? I realize I have eight imputs, but can I record each of those on an individual track?

Simple answer = Yes. Make sure you have 2 mics plugged in two separate selected channels/tracks, arm the tracks then record. It will record both tracks. You can record up to 8 tracks at once using mics, guitars, etc.

Tascam 2488

Hi,

You'd plug the XLR connection into any of the first four inputs on the 2488 (labelled a to d). This is a dynamic mic so you don't need phantom power and should make sure your phantom power switch is off (out) on the 2488. You'd then assign the input you've chosen to a track, arm the track for recording, turn up the input level for that input to test the signal level, and record away by pressing record and play together.

Hope this helps.

Is there any way to record Tascam 2488 Multieffects directly to the hard drive when I record? When I change tracks during playback, the previous effect that I used disappears...Please help???

Yes. Rather than pressing the track SELECT button to assign the effect, press one of the SOURCE buttons to the left of the EFFECTS. This will record the effect HARD to the track as oopposed to SOFT. SOFT being that the effect will NOT be recorded whereas HARD means it IS recorded and will be there anytime you play the track. NOTE: Just make sure that's the effect you want as it is then part of the track.

Tascam 2488 Portastudio

To record the eight inputs onto 8 separate tracks at once simply plug your mics or other audio sources into the mic inputs (only 4 can be powered, A-E) and then assign each input to a separate track by pressing the input button which corresponds to one input and then the select button for the desired target track at the same time. Do this for all eight inputs and their target tracks. Then arm all eight tracks to record by pressing the record buttons on each (the red lights will come on). Then when you press play and record in the transport section (or use punch operations) you will record all eight inputs to all eight tracks at the same time.

Good luck.

Difficulty with recording

It sounds like you have connected the two correctly. I can only imagine that you need to check that the hifi source selector is switched to that line-in, it may be referred to as AUX. Check that the recording level control is not at zero on the hifi and if there is a volume control for line-out on the tascam. If you are able to listen to the recording on via the hifi then you are halfway there even if it doesn't get to the hifi recorder. If your hifi is a seperates system then you could try plugging the tascam in to the CD input on the amplifier.

Tascam 488 mk II recording problems

Have you taken a look at the edge of the tape? tracks 1 and 2 on a cassette are usually next to the edge and you may have a bad batch of tapes that have the edge damaged. Another possible but not a likley problem might be the tape is out of spec. for the width, and your heads MAY have a little wear from use, and are trying to act like tape guides. If the tape is slightly wider than the grove worn in the head, the tape would be lifted at the edge and not make contact to the head. It is not electronic as you have diagnosed this with other tapes. Give it a try and see!
