My camera just started having a similar problem while I was trying to shoot a birthday party. It was working fine, then all of a sudden it wouldn't zoom in anymore. In trying to figure out what was wrong, I also noticed that it won't focus, and after a couple of minutes an error comes on the screen to push the reset button. After the camera has reset, it manifests the same problems and eventually reaches the "push the reset button" message again.

Make sure it's set to AUTO. Mine was set to manual made everything blurry. The AUTO/MANUAL/FOCUS slider button is on the side of the cassette door near the zoom buttons.

Just a hunch as sometimes the micro will get scrambled so take off the battery as well as the battery or batterys for the date and time. and let the unit sit for 24 hours power back up as see if that cleared your error If not send away to get repaired.

The solution is never buy a Panasonic DV camera. Tons of users complain of focus failure and Panasonic pretends the problem does not exist. Great cameras otherwise but out of focus does not cut it.

Where is the reset button

I hope this helps. I have a PV-GS85 camera and the reset button for it is on the right hand side of the camera as you're holding it. It is a small recessed button just in front of (toward the lens) the Auto/Manual/Focus switch. It should say 'RESET' next to it. You may have to get something small to poke into it to reset it. Hope this helps you.

Push the reset button

let the camera sit alone for About 20 min,so that the camcorder automatically turned off. I turned it off, then back on and did not receive the reset button prompt.
if that doesn't work unplug the battery and all power and plug back in.

Problem with focusing

sounds as though the focus motor worm gear is binding up. I have ,at times been able to take this assebly off the zoom lens ,oil it and reinstall it. very very light amout of floil, a very thin oil. Also the zoom motors worm gear binding will cause this problem, sometimes one of these motor/worm gear assemblies will have to be replaced.
