One note about oil using a detergent oil is not recommended for small air cooled motors because the detergent turns to carbon and builds up on valves etc. Non detergent is all you should use in small air cooled motors they will last twice as long at minimum. 25 years as mechanic has taught me some things. :)

You can use numerous engine oils. 10W - 40, 30W Detergent, 30W Non detergent (SAE)
The best all around above 40 deg F and below 100 F oil to use is a 30W detergent oil. Brand name does NOT matter. Oil level should be checked EACH time you add fuel. Change oil any time the oil appears Dark BLACK when checked regardless of the hour intervals. .

My coleman powermate 6875 generator will not start unless I tip it up on end and when ilet down it will start the first pull of the cord

Low fuel
Or
Water in fuel tank (fuel system)
Or
Stuck carburetor float
Or
Crud (and/or water) in carburetor bowl
Or
All of the above.

Drain all fuel from tank. Remove and clean out carburetor bowl. Reassemble.

Take a dry clean 2.5 gal fuel container and get 2 gal of fresh gas. Pour all 2 gal into gen tank and start.

And of course it could be some other problem.

Check for spark. If no spark, check ON/OFF switch and oil pressure sense failure).

If you have spark, then...

Low fuel
Or
Water in fuel tank (fuel system)
Or
Stuck carburetor float

Need a stater kit for a powermate generator 6875

You will need to contact a Coleman dealer to purchase any parts. Fixya.com has no resources to order or sell parts for any consumer product.

I have a coleman powermate 6875 engine runs fine and it all works till it gets hot then the engine still runs but not charging.

The unit should have a pop out fuse or set of fuses.
If you are drawing too much currant from the unit, it will shut down. If you plug in a simple 100Watt light and test the unit and see if it stops generating currant.
Max is only 5500.
You may also have shutoff thermo sensiors, if the caseing of the generator runs too hot or low on oil, it will shut unit down.

Keep in mind, if you have a shut off valve, turn the shut off valve, closing the fuel supply while running.
This will remove all gas from the bowl and not spoil after setting for long periods of time.
Same with oil, it will do damage to the engine if it just sets for long periods.

Wont turn over

Check the oil level, these generators have an oil monitoring system that prevents the engine running if the oil isn't all the way up to the bottom of the threads in the oil fill hole.
