Unless your printer is made to work with wireless printing, it will not work. If it is wireless capable, then call them to setup your connection. The PW is likely programmed into the printer.
Some printers require special software to be installed on the ipad. Keep that in mind.
Turn off "Notification" for the offending item , email or sports or what ever sends the message.
if you printer is Bluetooth you will have to re pair, with iPad on turn on your printer, look at IPad in settings, Bluetooth and see if your printer is listed!
Make sure you have the Pages app installed on your iPad. Connect the iPad to your computer using the appropriate USB cable. Open iTunes, then locate your iPad in the source list and select the Apps tab. Scroll down to access the File Sharing Pane. The File Sharing Pane is a centralized location where you can manage the transfer of documents to and from your iPad. To print, transfer the desired document from the iPad to the Mac's hard drive. Then simply open and print using a device connected to that Mac or a device on the Mac's network.
Alternatively, e-mail yourself any documents you want to print, then open them on a Mac with printer access and print from there.
Printing using apps
Shop around. Each printing app works a little differently. When PCMag.com originally reported on iPad printing apps in April 2010, it found few that worked particularly well -- and several that didn't work at all. No doubt this trend has continued as developers continue to bring out new apps. PrintCentral is an app that can be used with iPad, iPhone and iTouch. Its developers tout it as a one-stop-shop for mobile printing needs. MacWorld has awarded it 4 out of 5 mice and EuroSmartz.com has named it its iPad App of the Week. It can print directly to most wireless printers. Whether you opt for PrintCentral or another printing app, make sure to review any instructions carefully to get the best performance.
you can only print from an ipad using the airprint app if you have one of these printers
read more about it here

But keep in mind that printing is still not great for iPad even with these Apps (please read the reviews before you buy), and the next version of iPads apparently will have printing capabilities.
