PDP-427CMX powers on then the standby blinks 3 times

I have a Pioneer PDP-427CMX that powers on then the standby just blinks 3 times. I picked this up from a friend as they were going to dispose of it. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Update: I have found that the issue only occurs when the unit is upright. I noticed that the monitor turns on and is fully functional when the unit is laying face down.

Has anyone seen this issue? Please advise.

You could hang it over your bed as a work-around. ;-)

PDP - 436PG display turns off then straight off and the red standby flashes 3 times, pauses then repeats

That is an error code that likely means power supply issue and based on brand not likely to be a do it yourself fix. Consider having a authorized Pioneer service center look at it and get an estimate.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Pioneer PDP506-HDG plasma tv

The 3 blinks ( i assume they're blinking in red) means a scan assy problem. Check the scan A & B boards and the Y drive board. Something is shorted and loading down the Vscan voltage of the power supply.

PDP-427CMX won't power up

This points to the Y-SUS circuit (left-hand side PCB).

If you aren't technical then it needs to be taken for service.

Returns to standby

Green flashing 3 times = digital DC - DC converter fault
