Blue Saturation with retrace lines visable

My Sharp 36U-S60 36" TV screen suddenly became saturated with blue and the retrace lines are very visable. Does this sound like the picture tube is gone?

Could be but there are a few checks that need to be donr first.. Try to turn down the g2 control just a bit on the flyback transformer. If no effect unsoder the blure drive transistor on the crt board If the blue is still there that means the crt is shorted and you could try to clean the elements with a crt rejuvenator and see if that helps. If the screen goes to red and green after you disconnect the blue drive transistor then you need to check the osd drivers as well as the rgb output drive from the video IC. If the blue gun in the tube shorted or leaky I have in the past and it really works a isolation transformer that plugs in to the crt socket and the other end plugs into the crt. What this does is isolate the the gun of the crt from the filiments and thats where they get shorted or leaky but for how long it will last who knows.

TV has multi color lines and a circle when I turn it on

Sony rear-projection TVs provide a large-screened entertainment solution for your home or office. Unfortunately, color problems and yellow and blue spots and saturation can occur on the face of the Sony rear-projection TV. These problems can be the effect of damaged cables, electronic interference from other devices or dirty lenses on the inside of the rear of the television set. You can troubleshoot for these problems and make satisfactory repairs without the help of a repairman. No experience with Sony rear-projection TVs is necessary.Step 1
Check the audio/video cable that connects the Sony rear-projection TV to the cable or satellite receiver. This black cable has a number of multi-colored plugs on each of its ends. Ensure that this cable is not visibly damaged in any way, and that each of the plugs is in good shape and is not bent. A damaged audio/video cable will negatively affect the quality of your rear-projection TV's display and may lead to yellow and blue saturation problems and various other display irregularities.
Step 2
Ensure that there are no other high-powered electronics in the close vicinity of your Sony TV. Speakers, computers and other similar electronic devices use a large amount of power and in turn may give off a lot of electronic interference. This interference can cause problems for your rear-projection TV's screen, such as color blurring and similar color issues. Move any such potential devices to an area that isn't as close to your Sony TV. The color blurring and yellow and blue saturation problems should then decrease over time.
Step 3
Unplug the TV if problems persist. Ensure that the Sony is completely disconnected from all power sources. This is for your safety.
Step 4
Place a towel on the floor of the area where you are going to operate on the TV. Carefully turn the TV facedown on the towel, so that the rear of the TV is facing upward.
Step 5
Remove all the screws from the back cover of the television set using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the back cover piece by working around the edges with your fingers and gently prying the piece off.
Step 6
There will be three upright lenses in the back of the television. Cleaning these lenses can alleviate picture quality problems and color blurring. Use a soft cloth and soap and water to clean the lenses of the television. Avoid using any other cleaning solutions, as soap and water is the only universally recommended cleaner from rear-projection manufacturers like Sony.
Step 7
Ensure that the lenses are dried. Replace the back cover of the rear-projection TV and reinsert all screws using the Phillips screwdriver.

After cleaning the lenses on my 60P8342a tv and turning the color buttons in the back my tv is shutting off and on and I have a flashing power button, no pic or sound at times

How long was it back befor you turned on this potentiometers ?

Dust and more can be come into the potentiometers of a crt (cathode ray tube) projetion tv in the years that its old it is not strange.
Ist an older kind of model of projection tv.

Treat them with contact spray , also not only red the r g b potentiometers but all the potentiometers that are parts of the convergention panel. and adjust them on a screen with the base saturation of color to zero so you adjust a good gray tray with a balans without a red brown or green or blue surplus so that you have white gray black in balance if you have adjusted , tur back on the basic color saturation to your prefered level.

Chances are pretty good that the weather will be fine.
To see some brown spots on the board and replace any carbon composite resistors for carbon or metal film resistors in the print because of high tolerance over this kind of resistance.

Lines on the screen

Are they thin, white lines running east to west? If so, they are called retrace lines and indicate that the screen settings for the picture tubes is set too high or there may be a mal-function of the CRT driver circuitry. Try adjusting the screen controls which are located behind the front grill of the TV behind an access panel. Once you remove the grill and access panel, you'll see a small control assembly the has two sets of controls. Three for adjusting the red, green, and blue focus, the other, the red, blue, and green screen controls. To adjust correctly, put the TV on an unused input(dark, blank picture) and adjust until there are no visable retrace lines or color in the image.
