Hi, I've seen that issue before with the G11, it's due to faulty wiring on the circuit board and can only be fixed by a Canon authorized repair shop as fixing that issue is very involved.
Your Powershot G11 probably needs to be serviced. If your under warranty and you didn't drop it or get it wet, send it to Canon. If you're out of warranty or caused the problem, send it to: www.camerasandparts.com If you have to pay, they are generally half the price of Canon and they do amazing work. They service the Canon Powershots exclusively, they're great if you need some help with one of these.
