SOURCE: 2- 1 Code detected

This means the anode voltage to your CRTs (RGB) is too high or your controlgrids have failed to slow the electron beam from the cathode down. What you need to do if you do not have electronics experience is to have a qualified TV technician take care of this problem. As a suggestion have him check the HV on the CRT anodes and the voltage doubler which the IHVT goes into. In any event get the set checked and repaired by a qualified technician.

Thank you,
I hope this helps

Turns off after two seconds when turned on any suggestions please?

Hi

It could be a problem of cold solder joints, or solder joints on the main board which have cracked over time due to thermal expansion and contraction of the circuit board. Repair is to find and reflow the cracked joints. You may want to consider hiring the services of a reputable repair professional to deal with getting your set back into normal operating condition.

However TV's attempt to protect themselves from damage by shutting down. Your unit has three main ways to protect from damage.

SHORT PROTECT

The TV monitors various DC voltage supplies. If one of the supplies is missing. The TV shuts off.

X-RAY PROTECT

The TV monitors excessive high voltage and beam current. When the TV detects that one of these is too high the TV shuts off.

OVER CURRENT PROTECTION

This will activate if excessive current drain on the 130 volt supply line. If the TV detects this supply line is too high the TV shuts off.

Most units made in 1999 have a diagnostic mode to help determine the cause.

Power comes on for two seconds then goes off. Trouble code is 21. Is this worth fixing?

The X-Ray Protect circuit monitors:
* Excessive High Voltage
* Excess CRT Beam Current
* Excess HV Circuit Current

The X-Ray line is normally High. If any of the monitored sources exceeds its' specific reference, the X-Ray line is pulled Low, shutting Off the TV. If X-Ray protect shuts the TV Off, pressing the Power button will turn the TV back On ( it will shut Off again if the problem still exist).

Possible Problems: Power Supply Fault, Sweep Circuit Problem, Doubler Board Fault or a leaking CRT. You may have bad capacitors in the power supply or the sweep power supply.

Check for CRT leaking, few drops of clear light oil. If this is leaking the fix is costly and not worth fixing.
Inspect for puffy capacitors on the power supply and sweep circuit boards, if you can solder replacing capacitors is cheap, middle pricing for replacing power supply or circuit boards.

The TV will not power on and the red light blinks 6 times.

This is a basic blinking error code table:--

Error Code Table

0 = No error
1 = X-ray protection, E/W protection, and/or Vertical protection active
2 = High beam current protection active
3 = Reserved
4 = +5V protection active
5 = Signal Processor (IC 7150) register corrupted
6 = Signal Processor (IC 7150) error
7 = Total failure
8 = Internal RAM error (Microprocessor IC 7000)
10 = NV memory (IC7088) addressing error
11 = NV memory (IC7088) size error
12 = Histogram (YUV) (IC 7770) error
14 = Sound processor I²C error (TDA9855)
16 = Main Tuner I²C error (IC 1125)
17 = PIP Processor I²C error (IC 7350)
18 = PIP Tuner I²C error (IC 1127)

But in most cases the power cord is "defective" as it's a common issue.try with new cable 1st or else follow the chart and replace the part as per coding chart on main board.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.

No Power - DEAD after electrical storm

Good Day,
I can't tell you if it's worth it, but I can tell you an average repair for this TV is about $500.00. To isolate the problem: This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB (NOT SHOWN IN THE SCHEMATIC). 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. 3. SELF-DIAGNOSIS INDICATES SHORT PROTECT. CHECK FOR A SHORTED IC4B01 PART # 270P261020 (VERTICAL OUTPUT) LOADING 24-VOLT SUPPLY LINE. LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB. Good Luck, big IRISH.
