Remove the battery from the motherboard and check that it has 3volts or above. if not then replace it. That will cure your pressing F1 to continue all the time. As for the restarts then you will need to turn off Automatically restart in the control panel, system section. To do this you will need to boot into safe mode. Tap the F8 while booting until you get a black screen with white type on it. Its first option is to boot into safe mode. hit enter on this screen and windows will start with no drivers loaded. the screen will appear very large. navigate to the control panel as mentioned above and untick "automatically restart". Ok that and reboot normally. now you will most probably get a blue screen of death. note the first stop code. it will appear something like 0x000000??. Its the last two digits that are the clue to why this is happening. Google the stop code and you will now know why this is happening and do something to stop the problem.

Toshiba satellite C655 laptop has black screen with blinking cursor. It did complete some Windows updates. I was on the Internet then my laptop just shut down and it in this black screen with blinking...

Turn the computer off all of the way by holding in the power button until it shuts off.

Turn it back on and immediately start tapping the F8 key. It should bring you to a menu that has an option for going to "Last Known Good Configuration". Choose that option and see if it boots up.

If pressing F8 doesn't bring you to the menu - you may need to run diagnostics on the computer. To get to the diagnostics, attempt to boot to the Boot Menu by pressing F11 or F12 at the boot screen and see if it gives you the option to run diagnostics.

I accidentally put my Compaq 6715 b laptop into hibernation. I don't know how I did it or how to bring it out of hibernation.

You need to hit the power button just the once to bring it back out of hibernation mode. It may take around 30 seconds until you hear your computer starting to boot back up and a little longer for the screen to come on.

Failing this, you can try a hard reboot by holding down the power button until you hear your computer re-boot. Usually you need to hold around 10 seconds. However using this last method as a final resort will result in your computer telling you that it did not shut down properly.

Will not load past the "DELL" loading screen when you turn it on..wtf is wrong with it?!

hmm
ok try turning the computer on soon as you see any life at all hit f8.
or it maybe Shift f8 on yours. you may have to try both. but hit f8 you will see the advance menu screen. on advance menu screen select last known good configuration.
allow the computer to boot. if it gets to desk top perform a system restore to before the problem started. if not you will need to shut down again . boot the computer again as soon as you see any life . you will need to enter setup. you can do this by turning on computer soon as you see any life hit f1 or f2 or delete. it will be 1 of those keys that will get you into setup. in setup you will look to the upper left corner you will see where it says load default settings.
click on load defult settings. agree to it by clicking yes or by typing a Y.
now you will want to save your settings and exit the bios. the save and exit will also be there with load default button. click on save and exit.
allow system to boot.
Hope this was helpful.

Disc failure 0 press F1 to continue

He has accessed the bios and change the boot setting devices by enabling the floppy drive which you do not have.

Go Bios (F1 or F2) on first screen. and select load default setting

Also go to Boot Options and make sure 1st boot is the HDD not FDD or removable disk

Also in any menu mention of Floppy Disk make sure it is set to not installed or disabled.

keep me posted

I cant install a new operating system into my HDD. My setup does not suportt boot from CD.

The Bios Settings need to be changed to boot from The ATAPI drive. When you turn on computer press the F2 or F1 or Delete button, sometimes its F10. Once you are in the bios setting look for boot devices. Follow the on screen instructions to change the boot order. I hope this helps.

The computer starts then shuts down.

Try booting up the computer pressing whatever key the Dell needs to boot into BIOS (F10, Delete key, F1...pay attention to the screen) and leave the computer on for about 15min. See if it cuts off then. If it does its more than likely your power supply. If it doesn't then its not hardware related.

My computer wont start up

First try pressing F2 at start up to see if you can get to setup. Also pressing F12 may get you a boot menu. If cd is already set as first boot you may get a chance to boot from a Windows cd. The idea here is to get to a minimal Windows configuration like setup or safe mode (F8) to see if this is a hardware or operating system fault. Two common issues with eMachines are power supply problems where repetitive reboots can actually fry the motherboard or if the PC has a few years use the CMOS battery. Steve Medley
