What I am gonna say to you it may seam a little strange ..I had and heard about issues with non aligned head before ..and specially with canon camcorders..Just remove batteries..and tape ....close all lids..and after that smack it firmly ..on a side..a few times..After that insert the batteries..and try to see the results ..The issue is some kinda alignment on the video head or the carriage ...and it is strange ..but this is supposed to work .. (Even if it works ..the issue will came back to bother you from time to time ..)
pay attention not to smack it too hard ..just with all the palm ..so the area to be wide..and not create damages..and not to have any buttons in the way ..

How do I load the tape

I see your picture of a cassette player. Guess you are referring to that. (tapes also come in reel-to-reel, and 8-track). Just push the "EJECT" button (power may need to be applied to some units for the eject button to work). The tape slot will open. Insert tape with exposed tape on the "head" side of the opening, usually the heads are on the bottom of the slot.. You can't put it in any other way and have the door close. The "door" that opens has guides for you to slide the tape into. The side you want to listen to should face you. Either manually close the tape compartment or push the close button (depending on model). If the door doesn't close, you put it in upside down. Push play and enjoy.

Close when play vcr

Problem in the mechanism that moves the tape in play,ff,rewind and also winds tape back into cassette and ejects it.

Likely a bad or worn belt or drive idler(rubber).

When i turn my xl 1s on and i put a new blank tape in it the red tape signal comes up on my screen, any help?

If you don't hear the normal sound, that the camara exept the tape, you problibly forgot to push in the tap of the tape receive mecanisme, before you close the cap. Closing the cap does not cause acceptance of the tape, like other camcorders.

Cannot find way to eject tapecassette

Check eject lever near battery, press it downward to open tape compartment, take out old tape and put new tape, close tape door and let it go inside by itself. Close tape compartment.

Below image will help you to locate eject button/ lever in DCR-HC18E camcorder.
Thanks.

Sony Handycam DCR-PC1E

Yeah ! Your problem is very simple. u can solve it on your own.
If you dont put the tape the comparment closes well and as soon as you pot the tape the compartment does not close , Right ?
The solution is there within ur hands itself.
If you want the compartment to be closed, then simply dont put the tape inside. let it be outside itself. U see, its so easy !

Tape door wont close

I'm having a similar problem. The camera is a Sony DCR-TRV280. When you put a tape in the tray will not go down. However when the tray is empty and you push it shut it will go down. In other words the mechanism works fine without the tape but with the tape it doesn't. I hope the explanation is clear enough. Thanks
