Kenmore upright freezer. continually runs. Temp. is 10 degrees f. I cleaned the dust off the compresser. Checked for leaks on the door seals no leaks. I have just now set the temp control from 4 to 3 and it shut off. Wall outlet was 120v. We did have 4 electrical outages this summer.would that make any difference.

update on the kenmore upright freezer
After dusting off the compresser and checking for door seal leaks. We leveled the unit and set the inside control from 3 to 2. The unit is working correctly now. Since the weather cooled off. A lower control setting may be the answer.

SOURCE: Proper temp. range in freezer

Hi dgh1,
The freezer should stay within 5 degrees of 0 while in operation. While in defrost the freezer may reach as high as 20 to 25 degrees. If any higher temperatures are reached your food will spoil as they are defrosted and refroze everyday. If you find that the temperature is allowing your food to defrost you may want to replace your defrost thermostat. This device is located on top of the evaperator coil inside the back of the freezer. It is made to turn the heater off when a temperature of 55 degrees is reached. One other possible problem could be your defrost timer is taking to long to restart the cooling cycle after defrosting. I hope this will help you and please send any other questions you may have, I am happy to help. and dont forget to rate me.

SOURCE: Freezer outside walls are very hot. Not maintaining temp

Hi, The walls are getting hot because that is where the condesor coils are. The condensor coils are where the heat is disperst that is trap as the coolant pumps through the evaporator coils inside. The fact that it is holding 0 degrees is a good sign. Is this freezer in a garage?
Check the door seals to make sure no heat is getting into the freezer other then when the door is opened.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

SOURCE: I have a Upright Freezer,

Hi,May be because the interior temperature is too warm. Check that the lid or door to the freezer is closed. If it was accidentally knocked open within the last few hours this problem can result. Check freezers operating temperature with an accurate thermometer. Should be approximately 5 degrees Fahrenheit for an upright freezer and -10 degrees Fahrenheit for a chest freezer. If not as indicated telephone for service.

You can also replace the sensor circuit that might do too..

Take care..

New upright kenmore freezer temp varies +/- 10 degrees

Over what period of time did this variation occur?

The freezer should have an automatic defrost cycle. The temperature will rise while it is going through this cycle.

Temp Alarm going off, when freezer seems to be cooling fine.

You need to check the temp in the freezer to make sure it's down to around 10 degrees. The alarm will go off much above that.

Oil and water on floor near upright freezer

Possible you have a sealed system problem, although you state it is working now. Maybe an overflow from drain pan is why there is water again.

My Kenmore freezer, model #253.9280212 runs but will not cool below 40 degrees. It runs all the time but I do not hear anything cut on and off. The freezer is 10 years old but looks brand new.

The first thing to check is door gasket< bad corners, gap in side, bottom or top. Close door on a dollar bill and try to slide it top to bottom side to side and if it slides fairly easy then seal is not doing good. If you find dirty area clean it off along with the cabinet side as well.If you find the side is leaking then heat gasket with hair dryer and apply vasoline to gasket to help it move freely. If you find tear or hole then replace it.

Running High @ -10 C and should run at -20 C on coldest setting

1. Make sure the sealing gasket is making good contact all the way around. It's pretty easy to lose 10 degrees. If it is a magnetic seal on the door gasket, it may not be sealing all the way around.

2. If it is staying that cold, everything is working well enough. Maybe you need a little gas in the compressor. Time for the service guy.

By the way, is your unit speced to be that cold full of supplies? Is the door opened frequently? minus 35 is pretty cold.
