Trying to hook the answer machine back up to a cordless phone that it was hook up to before. Everything is hooked up right and it is set to pick up calls on the fourth ring but it wont pick up. I have try everything I can think of. I try hooking it up different ways but there is only one way it can work and get a dial tone. I have try unpluging the power source to reset the machine it still wont work. There is no warranty on it because of the age of the answer machine. Its only 2 years old. Can you help me troubleshoot the answer machine or do I just need to buy a new one? Thankyou, April Allen

I just purchased this phone and hooked everything up correctly, but the Line in use light is on and the handheld states line in use and the answering machine will not respond to pick up messages. What is...

The phone will do this if it isn't (or thinks it isn't) connected to a working phone jack. Try a known good phone (corded type) in the jack to verify that in fact there is dial tone there. Also make sure that the line cord is firmly plugged in at both ends until the latching tabs snap into place. Sometimes it's just a poor connection because the plug isn't all the way in. You can also try another line cord. Bad ones do pop up sometimes.

If everything is correct with the phone jack, take the phone back to the store for an exchange. You have a dud.

Phone and answering machine are connected properly

I am still in need of a solution. It is not a 2 phone (cordless) it is 1 and know I have not solved the problem, I was hoping you would be able to help. I am not interested in purchasing anything other than what I already have.

Please help me resolve my problem, it doesn't sound like anyone has looked at or reviewed it. Thank you

DXA18580 series

Increase the # of rings before the fax picks up so that it's greater than the # of rings before the answering machine picks up. When you're expecting a fax, turn off the answering machine.

How to receive faxes automatically

First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. Hope this helped.

Cannot figure how to set up Canon MP830 All in One Fax machine with remote answering machine

Cannot figure how to hook up Canon MP830 all in one fax with remote answering machine. I can plug in phone line to send faxes fine but when hooked up in same hole and the phone rings it goes immediately to fax and can't receive phone calls. Maybe i have phone line hooked up in wrong place on my machine. The answering machine is in our master bedroom on the other side of the house. With my last a canon also i had it hooked up to go to fax after a certain amount of rings and it worked fine. That machine got fried by lightening and i replaced it with this machine. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i really need this fax hooked up all the time for my business.

Hooking up a fax machine on home telephone line

Well... the problem is that you are running two machines on one line. ONE of them has to take predominance. Both machines should have settings for "number of rings to answer at". It sounds like you currently have the fax set to less than the answering machine, so the fax picks up after two rings, while your answering machine might be set to more, which it never gets to, because the fax answered the call already(It doesn't matter if you answer the phone, or the fax picks up, once the line is open, the answering machine is taken out of the equation). Even if you set the answering machine to answer first, you're then taking the fax service out of the loop. I'm not sure how you're going to juggle that, since both types of machines each need control over the line to work properly. That's why we (business machine folk) always recommend a dedicated line for fax service.
