Question about Acer 90.00012.30B Computer Speakers

1 Answer

I've set up my new desktop, plugged in the acer speakers to the back of the hard disk drive (green plug and USB) but no sound is coming out. (If I plug the audio cable into the monitor and hard disk drive, it works.) Is there are power cord for the speakers? Or are my speakers and/or USB cable faulty? Thanks, Annette

The light green speaker audio cable should go to the light green connector on the back of your desktop not the disk drive or monitor!

Asus laptop with Win7 64 bit asks to format WD external drive while other laptops have no issue running it - how come?

you are not swapping from mAC to PC and back , right?
try other USB ports.
many external drives do not run with out an external power pack.
elements, use 4 diffr. 18watt power packs, Are you using the right one?

so plug that in ,first. then plug in USB , w7 must go Ding dong
or the USB is DEAD. (use this as #1 fact to follow)
then put ear to the case of drive, hear it spin?
if not ,there is no power, for SURE.
solve that first.
ok, it spins. (soft whirl\'g sound, do this when new to memorize how GOOD sounds)
for a tests, leave the USB cable , not connected.
let w7 boot to the desktop.
now plug in the USB HDD, cable.
W7 goes, Ding dong.
then see the USB icon in the tray, does it see the drive>?
Y/n?
click on that tray icon, i see USB to ATPI bridge then...
My externals (have many) shows as Z:/external below , bridge....
if not , USB is failing.
yes, ding dong, yes Icon, yes see drive above.!

then go to disk manager, type those 2 words in the run box.
start +run " disk manager"
CP(controlpanel)+computer management +disk management.
does disk manager see this spinning drive.
mine shows,. DISK 2 and is letter coded Z:
if not , the USB port is not working. or the drive is not with power.
if disk manager shows the drive, the assign a letter to said drive
now program manager can see the drive, with this letter Z.
it dont need to be Z , per ce\' but that letter is a nice flag.
step by step.

oops it has green tech, that means it goes to sleep.
make sure you turn that off first. or it may not show up at all.
it\'s so green its , invisible?

wd on their DL page has a spin down utility, use that.

Yeah, i think your HDD might be lifespan is nearing it end.
if you want to back up your data inside that HDD, assuming you gonna buy a new HDD soon, just give your current HDD to the seller and they will gladly extract whatever they can from it to your new HDD.

Speakers stopped working

go to control panel then to sound, double check and see which of your audio components is set as primary output. it's possible that it has changed. if you go to device manager in control panel you can see what type of sound card you have installed. make sure it is set to primary. also if you have multiple audio jacks on the back of the machine make sure that you have the jack plugged into the green plug.

What port on the back of the hard drive do I plug the durabrand uc280 USB powered speakers into?

Hi Missy
You don't plug the speakers into the hard drive.
You should have two cables or wires
a USB cable, which you want to plug into any open USB port. the USB cable will not plug into any port other than a USB port, so just find any open one.
The second wire should be a male 3.5mm stereo jack plug.
If you have a desktop computer, look on the back for a round green hole that the stereo jack will fit into. There may or may not be a symbol of headphones. You may not have a symbol or colored hole, in that case find the two or three holes that the plug will fit into, then turn on a program that should have sound, then plug the stereo plug into each of the holes until you hear sound. If you hear no sound no matter which hole, check to make sure you do not have the sound muted.
If you are using a laptop, look for the hole with the headphone symbol.
Hope this helps.

The power-supply seems OK, since you can hear it spinning, and the lamps are lit.

So, either the USB-to-disk-drive interface has failed, or the disk-drive itself has failed.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer, to see if it works, when you bypass that 'USB' interface.

How do I get the saved files from my GoFlex on my new computer

You should be able to just plug it in to USB and read them since the harddrive has aleady been set up and used. The new machine should read it just like it will read a thumb drive you've saved files on. This is one of the big reasons why people like these external drives :) You can take them with you and use on another computer.

Connecting speakers to Computer

In most cases the woofer plugs into the speaker which contains the power adapter plug, the green plug goes into the PC's audio out (usually a green plug on the back of the unit). When the USB is plugged into the machine the OS should plug and play the new hardware and may ask you to insert a driver disc if applicable.

After the OS has identified the new hardware and installed it you should be able to test additional audio out plugs if you are unable to hear sound from your first choice (again, ideally the green plug). There should also be a line out plug which may work for your purposes also.

If you are still having issues please post the model of your speakers so that we may look them up...

It's usually the green plug that you hook up speakers to. If you look closely at the sound card area of your computer, you will see little pictures telling you which one is for the mike, line in & speaker.

It sure sounds like to me that your sound properties got messed up some how, Go into your control panel and look up your sound card or sounds. Now once in you settings, You can set them the way you want to hear it, Or you can use the default setting, That would set it back to original factory settings and back to normal, It just sounds like someone changed the settings by accident, That should get your speakers back to normal, You will also notice that there a many settings in your audio properties that can change the way the system sounds thru the speakers. If that don't help the problem let me know we will get it right if you can 't get it.... thanks bear001
