Tv works great, fabulous picture. Changed bulb 3 months ago and everything was fine until a week ago. The tv turns itself off by itself!!! Somedays it is fine and won't turn off for hours and yesterday it turned itself off 5 times in a 30 minute period. What is going on?

Sounds as though the system may have overheated. Do you regularly check the filters and clean them? An airduster can also help to blow dust out of hard to reach places.
Sounds like the Lamp is over temperature. Either the fan went out or the filter is clogged! You might check the filter first. I hope this will help you...
Unfortunately lamps go bad without the visible state of being bad. I don't know who or where you bought the lamp from but I order all my lamps through dlplamps.com
The clicking sound you hear is the lamp inverter igniteing the lamp but the lamp is bad.
One must be very careful of the quality of the replacement lamp. Many of the cheap 'deals' on the web for replacement lamps are substandard. I always recommend that replacement bulbs be the original manufacturers bulb.
I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.
this is a symptom of a bad lamp. for some reason it won't spit out a lamp error. shaking up the lamp will sometimes fix temporarily but you will find replacing to be the answer. if your tv has a fan error, you will get 4 red blinks.
