When I scan documents there are multiple vertical lines about about an inch in from the right margin of the paper.

Hi

You may take out the catridges and clean it with a clean piece of cloth
Also take out the print heads and clean the copper strips with a clean cloth
Put it back in, try to clean the catridges from the printer
Also align the catridges, then try to print and check if its still happening

if it doesn't work
Then perform a semi NVM reset
Unplug the power cable wait for a minute press and hold down the power button for 30 secs
Then press and hold down the (#) and the (6) key together
Plug in back the power cable leave the keys.
Wait till it completes to boot up
Then try to print.

If still it doesn't work call hp at 1-800-474-6836

Thank you

Hi there

Vertical lines in scanning indicates there is something like dirt between the page that must be scanned and the lamp that lights up and moves, making it impossible for the scanned to read the area where the dirt/paper/etc. blocks the light. this "obstacle" is probably between the glass and the light. Have a look.

Regards

Andre

HP 3050 - vertical black lines

You say that the scanner glass is clean, but it takes next to nothing to cause these lines. Couldn't hurt to chack again (if you havent cleaned it 6 times already).....anyway, I found this document that is not specifically for your machine, but the menu commands should be the same:
Recalibrate the product scanner:
  1. Press ENTER/MENU on the control panel of the product.
  2. Press the < arrow key once to display Service and press the ENTER/MENU button.
  3. Use the < and > keys to select Scan Correction and press the ENTER/MENU button.
  4. Insert a blank, bright white piece of letter (8.5 x 11 inches or 216 x 279 mm) or A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches or 210 x 297 mm) paper into the document feeder tray.
Good Luck, and please rate the response :)

Colored Vertical Lines when ADF Scanning

the scanner system using ADF is not the same as in using from the platen glass, (CIS usually called contact image sensor) reads your document and sends the info to be printed, chances are your CIS assembly could be dirty and have some dirt on its surface, try opening this area on the top of ADF and clean with a moistened cloth, especially the affeced left margin, it should work!

Scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.

Print Problem - vertical lines

If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.
