If the app is a part of the firmware (android device) you can't. You can delete only the customer installed apps (third-party applications). You can do this from Settings - Applications.
Press and hold the desired app and you will see an option Uninstall.

To delete an app, existing or downloading. Hold down the icon until the icons shake and red minus icon appears, then tap on red minus button to delete.

Although on most phones, you cannot delete all pre-installed apps, there are some where you can delete most. If you have an iPhone, chances are, you cannot delete pre-installed apps. To delete and app on an iPhone, press and hold on app for around 3 seconds. An "x" should pop up on the high right and you click on that to delete the app. If you have an android, go to your play store and manually uninstalling it.

deleting apps are easy. just put the icons on wiggle mode by keeping your finger on one of the apps. Once they start wiggling just press the "x" that pops up on the top left corner of the app you want to delete. Once you delete all of the apps you can press the home button to stop the icons from wiggling. Just know that the stock apps like the camera, photos, clock, newsstand, etc etc you can't delete.

A factory reset will definitely help but do a backup before you reset.

Go to the JAVA menu, then Java again and in the list of installed apps, just select the unwanted app and then select "Delete"

This will uninstalled the app.
