SCSI and IDE HDs, can they work together?

6 x 300GB (largest available U320 SCSI HDD Capacity) = 1800 GB

Does your RAID SATA have a boot sector? Sounds like your trying to boot from a non bootable configured RAID.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

(note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive)
The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:
IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?

if it's old it's probably IDE also known as PATA. it looks like a wide ribbon. There should be a header on the motherboard that looks exactly like the plug on the back of the hard drive. It will be labeled IDE1 probably if you have it. Old motherboards used to have 2 IDE headers, modern ones have one or none. The ribbon will have three plugs--one for the mobo, and then two spaced closer together for the master and the slave. You need to hook it to the appropriate plug (master if it's the only device on the ribbon) and make sure the jumpers on the HD are set properly to make it self-identify as the master. Good luck!

If the drive you're referring to is the SCSI model, it doesn't have a "slave" option, but can be set to various SCSI ID's.

If you are using it on an older MAC it should work fine set to ID 1, if you want to use it on a PC check first if the PC even has a SCSI connector(rare for PC's of the same age as that drive as they primarily used IDE). The cables look almost identical but are in no way compatible

PE2600 has lots of spare power (unless you are already using all 6 SCSI drive bays) ..

You can fit 3 x SATA drives in the space where the (useless) tape backup unit is sitting [you can even buy a 'proper' enclosure = Icy Dock MB453SPF or I think the SNT-2131 will fit ] .. and you can split the power off the Tape drive (4pin) power socket ..

I've not found a DVD burner (only a combined DVD reader / CD burner = TS-L462C) .. however if you have a spare IDE port you should be able to use an external unit [you will need an e-ide cable & enclosure for the drive]

Put the hard disk in, allow the OS to identify it, format the drive and you'll be all set.

All ways best to used new cables (sata/Ide) I like to set jumpers on the HD's never cable select. Also try installing one harddrive at a time. Second make sure in bios is set to boot from main HD.

This solution works on WIN98 and I don?t see a reason why it wont work on you If there is something that you were missing you might want to check with anther expert. This solution is a little complex so I hope ill be able to explain it well enough: 1. Make a boot disk so u can format and install windows. 2. Define the new HD as MASTER and hook it up to "primary IDE" 3. Disconnect the SCSI and pull the board out. 4. Reset the comp from the boot disk u made (HD is connected) 5. Get in "bios settings" and make sure that the new HD is defined as "primary drive" In the 1st IDE 6. Now, perform a FDisk on the new HD, define partitions, do a reset and format the HD Install the operating system you wish to have, make sure it works well. 7. install the SCSI board and its HD make anther reset. 8. now the comp is supposed to make boot and recognize the SCSI, it is possible that you will need to define your system configurations but for that, regretfully, I cannot guide you Although this is not necessarily have to happen.
