The only way to turn the set on is to operate the power switch at the rear of tv, sometimes up to 3 -4 times before a picture appears on the screen. The remote will operate the tv functions only for a very brief time after the powering up process, and then it turns into a paper weight.
I use the remote for the set -top box to control volume & channel selction.
To turn the set off, I have to turn of at the swith on the back again or at the wall. Can someone help me??
My 3 yr old Acer 32" is doing the same thing. Every 3 or 4 hours it freezes or dies and I have to try powering it up using the switch on the back. Eventually it comes back and is good for a couple more hours again.

Intermittently the tv won't come out of standyby. I have tried by both the remote and the switch on the TV.
We mainly use the remote for turning it on and off.
Did you manage to find out what was wrong with the TV.
Were Acer any help ?

I have given up on the Acer as my main tv since I can not rely on it to last through an entire program without crashing. It is now my back up tv in the bedroom and my main tv is now a Sony Bravia. Acer was no help at all except to apoligize for the problems, but offered no solutions.I have given up on the Acer as my main tv since I can not rely on it to last through an entire program without crashing. Same problem i also guessed the power supply. Seems like its having trouble getting the full charge it needs to power up the tv fully. I want to repair the power supply myself but im not sure which component to replace. im guessing either the mosfets or the capacitors? i know the component that needs replacing buzzes until it reaches full charge and then voila tv will come out of standby. When it doesnt work it just continues to buzz. any ideas? i hope together we can sort this and save having to spend £££ on a new TV!

I have the same problem too. My solution is to buy a brand new tv after living with this for two years. Additional problems includem having a picture with no sound, having sound with no picture and rarely having both. looks like the same problem i have with my 32" acer tv, it seems to be a problem of acer TVs get someone to check the capacitors in the power supply.... I think one might be bad.
The only thing i've seen with those Acers that generally cause that is that electrolytic capacitors in the power supply fail causing what you're describing. It would make sense that 3 TVs bought at the same time would have about the same amount of time on them, and are wearing at a similar rate.
