Toshiba Portege r200 was working normal (up until yesterday). Today, when I first turned it on, the fan was on and it sounded full blast, but screen remained dark (blank). I held power button until it shut off. Thereafter, when I re-attempt to startup laptop, blue light comes one, but screen remains 'blank' and laptop appears to remain with no attempt to even turn on. Any advice?

SOURCE: TV screen went dark, but sound still there.

your backlight burnt out, this will be a maybe several hundred dollar repair. the screen is backilt by a very expensive flourescent light, without that light, the screen will be black.

My Toshiba Portege R200-S2031 LCD display has developed lines across top and RH side of screen. What kind of fix is there?

First, give the screen a good cleaning using a microfiber cloth. This may inadvertently remove the lines even though they are in the display.

If this doesn't work, you'll have to send the laptop back for repairs. Screens are not a component that can be replaced easily (such as RAM or a hard drive).

If your laptop is not under warranty, scope out some local computer shops that can replace the display for you. Make sure to ask them for a quote BEFORE they do work on your computer, otherwise they have the right to deny you your laptop, once they fix it, until you pay up (a possibly very nasty price).

Toshiba Portege r200 is making whirring noises

Its problem two things. One, the fan on the heat sink or your hard drive. More than likely your hard drive.

Toshiba Portege M400 screen turned off - can't get back on.

Hi,
reboot, keep tapping F8 key, until you get to the system start up page ( black screen with writing )
the top offer is called
" last known good"
Choose this, let it roll, see how you do.

Or same reboot, keep tapping F8, til you get into start up menu, choose safe mode,
when it boots up, do a system restore,

start,all programmes,accessories, system tools,
system restore, choose the date it offers you,
Let it roll,
Should be good, if no hardware problems

Regards
Richard.

How to install win xp in toshiba portage r200 laptop

This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.

Toshiba R200 aniversary edition UK -LCD replacment

Hi there.
Yes some screens are interchangeable between laptops, the best way to find out is take the screen out and take note of the serial number behind the screen and the ribbon cable connectors to see how many pins they have (some laptop screens differ) if the serial numbers correspond and the cable fits then you should be good to go.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
