NexxTech (1419103) Cassette/CD Boombox Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 24, 2011

Hello, Hope you can help. My nexxtech boom cd/cassette player wont read cds anymore. Model 141-9103. The disc spins when you insert the disc and close door. It then stops spinning and displays 00 for song being played. When I press play or skip, nothing happens. Can you suggest what I may do to correct the problem. Radio and cassette work, just not the cd. I really appreciate it. Thanks muchly Jo

Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with a cleaning cd?

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2011

Yes, I have tried cleaning with a laser lens cleaner and q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
Any other suggestion? Should I take it apart? Not sure what to look for.

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2011

When u put in a cd it just sits there linking 00 or does it eventually go to ER? if it does that the controller board for the cd drive is fried.. If not the laser is out could be a burnt capacitor.. Cheap fix if you know anyone who can solder

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2011

Yes, cd stops spinning and 00 is visible. It does not go to er. I will take it apart and see if I can see the part to solder. Just a bummer cause I dont use the cd on the boom box that much, more for the radio. So still fairly new. Took it out to the lake and discovered this problem. I may have to buy a new one. Thanks so much for your help. I will try what you suggested. Thanks again.

I have 2 boom boxes where cd's spin but no sound.

Its probably a lens failure, its quite common, try cleaning the lens,

if all else fails, try turning the unit upside down and load the disc, sometime this for some reason - resets the lens if slighty out but its not fact, just something i heard

Sony boom box model# CFD-So1 serial# 2813391 The CD part says there is no disc in. I tried several DISC WITH NO LUCK. Please help

This error "disc error", "no disc present" or " can\'t read cd". This all error are related to lens problem. If the lens is dirty or if the lens is got cracked or if the lens is getting blocked then it can happen. The lens is very thin glass material. You can say the lens is the "eye" of the unit. If the eye is dirty then it will not see the object. The unit needs to be opened carefully and this lens has to be checked. If any dust is collected clean it. Using the cd lens cleaner helps, but if the dust is got stuck hard or if its any other internal part then the lens cleaner will not help. If the lens is got cracked then the lens assembly has to be replaced.
You can use dry tissue to clean the lens. once the unit is opened. ------------ ------------- In most of the cases, this problem is not related to cd.But still get the cd checked in any other player too, this will confirm the fault. Also try other various cds in the boombox cd player and confirm. But if the cds not playing in other player too then its faulty cd.But this is very rare. Most probably the fault is related to boom box cd player. In the boom box cd player unit there are two main parts. One is cd spinning motor and other is cd reading lens(its also called "EYE" of the cd player). But many times the cd spins internally and does not play. If you can hear the noise of cd spin inside then its lens problem and not the motor. But if there is no spin noise in the unit then both lens and motor are to be checked. The motor is not spinning because its short/blocked or its connections are got loose. It has to be checked. The lens is not reading the cd, because its got dirty or its got cracked and faulty. The boom box cd player lens is made up of thin glass and its very delicate. Many a times dust gets collected on the lens, so the lens stops reading the cd and it do not play. Some times there is no dirt on lens but it gets cracked, if by mistake any pressure is applied on the unit or up-side down cd is placed in the tray or internal short circuit has occurred. These are few possibilities of lens not working. But in most cases its dirty lens causing this problem. SO open the tray by pressing the eject button, then unplug the unit from main power outlet, by keeping the cd tray open. Then take air blower and blow air in the unit. Please remove, if there is any cd in the tray while blowing air. Just blow air for few minutes. Then take a dry tissue and clan the cd placing tray externally and then reconnect the power and see, if that is helping or not. If the problem is same as before, then disassemble the unit and clean the lens manually by hand using dry tissue paper and then see if its helping. But take care while cleaning the lens with dry tissue you doesn't apply too much pressure on lens or any other parts. Also before removing any screw to disassemble the unit. Take a marker with you ready. Just mark the position of parts and screws before removing. If you have a cell phone with web cam in it then take a photo of the internal parts before moving any parts. Disassembly is not very hard but reassembling is not easy. So this pictures and marks with help you for reassembly. ----------But if lens is cracked internally then the lens assembly has to be replaced. If motor wires are loose then you can easily get it re-soldered by soldering machine. You can get it replaced from local cd /dvd player repair center. They have these parts with them. --------------- This should help. Thanks. Helpmech.

Sony boom cd/radio/cassette player says no disc and does not play even though the disc is spinning. The radio and cassette do work. We used a Dynex cd/dvd laser lens cleaner and it played for a short...

The laser diode is usually the first component to fail in optical disc players.
If you can, open the casing to expose the CD mechanism.
Point a cell-phone camera at the laser lens, which hides under a flat bridge.
Without a disc inserted, press play or eject / load the CD tray.
Via the camera, you should see the laser diode briefly flash as it tries to read data from where disc should be.
No flash means IR laser diode has probably burnt out.
Don't stare directly into laser beam for long periods with the ***** eye - rather use the camera as an interface.
The beam's visual color is red, but the CDS sensor of a digital camera sees the IR radiation as white on mobile's screen.

Jvc kd-sx770 car stereo--radio works, but cd player doesn't

Hello beeswing70,

The player is recognizing that a CD has been inserted but is not able to read it.

Sometimes the lens assembly becomes contaminated and obscures the laser. I'd try using a commercial "lens cleaning CD" two or three times and then try a CD again. These lens cleaning CD's are widely available. If cleaning does not help, the player need professional service.

Hope this helps.

Xplod cd player reads Err 99 and wont accept cd

I had the same problem.
i fix it by taking out the cd player and pulling the outer case off. when i looked inside and the (in technical terms) metal bracket that holds the white plastic disc (that i guess holds the cds) inside the cd player was bent down. i am assuming that cds were hitting this when i tried to insert them! i just bent it back up using a knife from the outside. i bent it up until the white disc looked level.
good luck

DVD problem

It could be a couple things...
#1. Over time, dust and deposits can accumulate on the laser that reads the disc. In many cases, DVD players with this problem can still read CDs. You could try a DVD laser cleaner, which is usually a disc that has a tiny brush glued onto it. Run the cleaning disc 2 or 3 times, and try it again. Try both CDs and DVDs, since CDs are easier to read than a DVD.
2. After a DVD player has been used for awhile, another common problem is that the laser in the DVD player becomes misaligned, inhibiting its ability to read DVDs. In many cases, DVD players with this problem will still be able to read a CD. I'd try a cleaning disc first, since the only way to fix this problem is to bring the unit to a service center for repair.
Let me know what happens after you get the DVD laser cleaner and run it. Hope this helps.
