We need to teach a 3rd grade lesson on skip counting using the TI-15 calculator. We cannot find instructions online to do this lesson. Please advise. Our curriculum gives us instructions for two different calculators, but the TI-15 is not one of them. Could you please respond quickly as our pacing guide has us teaching the lesson tomorrow, 8/25/11 Thank you for your prompt attention. Tina Puckett

SOURCE: My TI-89 calculator turns on, but gets stuck on window editor

If you're willing to have all RAM cleared, try a hard reset.

Press and hold the 2ND, Left-arrow, and Right-arrow keys.
Press and release the ON key.

SOURCE: my graphing calculator reads err:invalid dim. How do I fix that?

A previously posted solution, taken from my Web page without permission, was removed by the admins at my request. The person who posted it should have asked first and should have credited me. Here is my solution:
==========================================
This message has several possible causes.

  • If you get this when making some kind of plot, you probably forgot that you have one of Plot1 Plot2 Plot3 turned on, and it refers to two lists that don't have the same length. The cure is to press [Y=] and turn off the unwanted plot.
  • If you’re actually doing something that needs lists, such as a regression, but your lists don’t have the same length, you get this message. Press [STAT] [1] and check your lists.
  • You also get this message when you give the TI-83 a list or matrix where it expected a variable or number, or vice versa. For instance, on the STAT PLOT screen, you may mean to press [2nd] [L1] but if you miss the [2nd] you actually type a Y. In the same way you might type a Z where you intend to type L2.
  • Karl Wein offers another possibility. You can create a list called L1, but that is not the same as the predefined list called L1 (note the small-capital L), and of course similarly for lists 2 through 6. If you accidentally delete a predefined list from the editor, make sure to bring it back with the SetUpEditor command.
In general, when you see this message you need to check carefully through what you’ve done to make sure that you used lists where you were supposed to, and nowhere else.

Hello: I have a very simple T125 X Solar Hand-held

Sorry its not possible with this particular model.
What my teacher in 6th grade did was make it mandatory for all of us to buy ti-30. This may sound drastic but its very cheap (only 10 dollars) and has severed me well for almost 9 years. Its can convert decimals into fractions and do native fraction manipulations.

Some of my class set of Ti - 84 silver aren't computing sine and cosine correctly. I've tried clearing RAM and looked at settings. Please help!

I have answered many questions asked by teachers and professors, and very few, if any, deigned to rate the posts. Why do I set myself up for yet another disappointment: I just like to help.

Anyway, the most common source of errors with computation of trigonometric functions is the angle unit. On Ti 83/84Plus (SE) calculators there are two angle units: the degree and the radian.

To verify which angle unit is set as default on a calculator, press MODE. You will see the following screen. The relevant line is the 3rd. On the screen RADIAN is highlighted, meaning that all angle values you feed to trigonometric functions are interpreted as radian measures.
Similarly, all values returned by inverse trigonometric functions are in radians.

I do not know what grades you teach, but if you are doing any differential calculus, the only appropriate unit is the radian. Only for the radian unit is the derivative of sin(x) equal to -cos(x). For the degree, you must introduce a factor to adjust (as a change of variable).

Set all your calculators to use the angle unit you are using in your teaching, and there will be no unexpected results.

I JUST GOT MY ti-8today and don't know how to use it

To do fractions, input like this:
(1/3)+(4/9)
Granted the answer is a decimal... But you should be able to convert that to a fraction using what you've learned in math class.

PI sign: Just press [2nd]and then[^]. And voila, instant π! Exponent:enter more complicated expressions involving exponents using parentheses and the negative sign.

It comes with the ti83 keypad plus software and great instructions to help the instructor at all levels of math learning. I don't know any better and it is a beautiful plan that ti has set up.

TAN

Hello,
The TI-15 Explorer is for primary schools (low grades). If you know about trigonometry that is not the calculator that you need.

Look for any SCIENTIFIC calculator (the cheapest you can find at a dollar store ) will do the job.

Hope it helps.
