No solution. I just tried to change my battery yesterday and am receiving the same message. If I get a resolution I'll post it. Just wanted to let you know you're NOT alone!

your watch has only to be cleaned. don't lose hope on that. bring it to watch expert, explain what happened. and i'm sure it can be fix. i hope i had been helped you.

yes it has two batteries, odn't worry all you have to do now is to bring it to watch service center. I hope i had helped you on this matters.

Unless the new battery is dead that would explain it, but assuming the battery is good it indicates a failure in the electronic module and should be considered done.

The battery number will be imprinted on the dead battery (for that watch it's most likely 379), however, I wouldn't recommend replacing a battery on a Fossil yourself. They are notorious for their back being incredibly difficult to remove and put back on and if you're not a professional, you will most likely break the crystal in the process. If it's a screw-back (and you can tell because it will have six rectangular shaped notches around the edge of the back) you won't be able to get it off unless you have a case wrench and a case vise. Take it to a jeweler and have them change it for you. Screw-back Style Case

Some watches have a "reset" button or combination of buttons that must be pushed to clear all the electronic registries on the watch's little computer after you replace the battery. You might try taking off the watch back and seeing if your watch has this requirement. Even then, it's not always a perfect solution. Last week, I replaced the battery in a watch that had been dead for some time. The watch appeared to come alive again when I put the new battery in, but when I pushed the reset pin (on this movement, it was on the watch movement itself, next to the battery), the entire watch went dead. Nothing I did would wake it up. I removed the battery, waited 30 seconds, then re-inserted the battery. Problem solved; the watch powered up, and I was able to set the time and access all functions again.
On some digital watches from the 1980s, after replacing the batteries, you were supposed to push and hold all the external buttons for a few seconds to reset the watch. I don't think manufacturers still make watches that respond to this, but it is easier to try than taking off the back and re-installing the battery.

I replaced my battery too...same watch same ugly condition where you can't set time nor does the light work.

I do know what the problem is: there was an ultra small copperish spring...about 1/6 the size of the other little wire spring that you have to short with twizers to reset time. Anyway, I lost this part...and even if I found it, I wouldn't know where it goes. I came on-line to find where the missing part goes...but everyone has the same issue as me. any jeweler would loose this parts just like me...it's the master contact the enables power to all the side pushbuttons...w/o it you're dead in the water. best wishes, mark
