I have a bellsouth powerline eth adapter 9640...We have moved into a new office building and I don't know how to make the new router talk to the adapter.
Hello,
I believe you should be able to enter the configuration page of your router.
If yes, then follow these steps:
1.) When you get to the configuration page, select the place where the LAN has to be configured.
and Select the router to be DHCP, that is, to distribute IP-Adress dynamically to the network.
2.) After this, get a switch, an unmanaged switch (i.e just a normal switch), and connect your router to it using a straight-through cable, on one of the ports.
On the other ports, connect your PCs.
3.) On your PCs, go to the network adapter and right-click on it then go to properties, then inside the column, select TCP/IP Config and select the "Obtain IP Address Automatically". Do the same for the DNS Server too.
4.) Repeat the same thing for ALL other systems connected to the Switch.
5.) Now, after all these, create a network connection setup and give them all the same Workgroup.
Remember to select that "All the systems connect directly through a Switch" when you are setting it up.
6.) Next, restart your systems.
This should make your system ethernet adapter connect to your router automatically.
In case you are using Vista, what you just need to do after Step 3 is to right-click on your "my computer " icon, then properties, then Advanced System settings, Then click on Computer name, Then select Change.
On this "Change" page, you can just type the name of your workgroup and select OK, then restart your system.
Kindly keep me posted about the problem.
Hope it helps.
Goodluck
