Wrrrrring Sound My 2001 Dakota (4wd) had gradually developed a wrrring sound in the front end. It reminds me of the sound that huge mudder tires make when put on a vehicle, but seems to be in the front and possible the left front end. It builds in intensity as speed is increased and vice-versa. I have noticed, however, that if you make a right turn it stops, but comes back as you straighten the wheels again. No change is observed with a left turn is made. I cannot see any obvious problem with the tire itself or any of the mechanical stuff underneath. Any ideas?

is this a question? how to? why do you think its active? 1: lamp on? 2: lever stuck.? 3; wheels dragging in front,? 4: front tire wear 5: front end of car , making huge nasty noises on pavement?
Hi, raise one of the front tires of the ground and see if it you can turn it, if you can then its not in 4WD. If the truck has over 100,000 miles then the wheel bearings may be bad.
i am not really sure unless the truck was in front of me but it sound as if you have a bad pinion gear in the rear end of the truck give these peoples a call they only sells GM-parts Schram auto & truck 1-800-292-1032 and maybe they be able to give you more information then i did.
