Question about Lexicon MX400 FX unit (with )

1 Answer

I think I've a failed unit. Turning it on - the USB flashes and then it remains on the logo splash screen. I have tried numerous times to factory resent - holding down the System button on power on, the following the instructions to reset. It appears to reset, I have the scroll bar then upon completion, it reverts to the logo screen and no button push or combination will change it. The LCD continually reads 1.1. The USB stops flashing after about 5 or 10 seconds after power on. The unit is clearly out of warranty. If not a fix you can provide via communication, would you please advise the cost? Thank you in advance. If I can't know the expected repair, I'll probably have to junk it if we don't have a fix. Things are tough, you know. Thank you very much.

It MAY be waiting for an UPDATE of firmware via USB. In other words you may have triggered an update mode that it will not exit without sending an update. The second possibility that comes to mind is that one of the buttons or the switch behind it may be stuck which can lock up the processor. Look for a button stuck in or that feels un-normal.

Same problem here. Machine was working fine until I left it on storage for about a year. I wonder if is not a relay problem, or something?

Sound keeps turning off after ten muients

I've had this problem with other sound equipment. For me, it was a heat issue and there was an auto shut off feature to save the unit from over heating. I would especially think this is the case if it turns back on without problem after another 10 minutes of being off.

You could try turning off phantom power if it isn't needed to run your mics. Or making sure it is in a spot that allows maximum air flow through the head.

Hope this helps! Don't forget to rate!

If this is a flash upgrade to the unit be VERY careful as a failed upload can leave unit dead. They usually have pretty tight checks to prevent an error from killing the unit during the upload. For certain music products I have found that I had to upload an in between version first that was available before uploading the latest current version.

Try this using a differeent computer. Some computers generate a lot of digital noise. Also use a lot of gain from the guitar to improve the signal to noise ratio.

I donnt think you can solve it the amps must be blown up and i dont think you would know

Most Amps that blow are down to failed Capacitors and ocassionally down to the Transformer or other components.

If you can have a look at the internal PCB and see if there are any Capacitors with bulges on the top or fluid leaking out of them then they've failed.

They're very cheap to replace but you'll need a soldering iron and the ability to desolder the old and resolder the new.

More likely a failed selector switch. Try working it back and forth a few dozen times. Contact cleaner may be tried too, squirting in the back of the switch.

MY ALESIS DM5 WAS PLUGGED TO 220V AND AFTER A WHILE STOP WORKING ( IT IS FOR 110 V ) IS ANY FUSE I CAN REPLACE?

Hi pcruzx,
Sometimes replacing the fuse alone with exact voltage and ampere ratings will cure the problem(you're lucky) but not all. Sometimes further damaged gone to other parts most especially the voltage regulator transistor/IC (mounted in heat sink) and the opened the fusible resistor in line with the supply(B+).
First check the fuse, for sure it was already blown. If you've replaced the fuse and immediately blew again after powering on the unit, this was an indication of shorted parts near the AC line. Click this LINK for more info.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

It works sometimes but mostly never. The power is on and the screen is blank.

For anyone who still has this issue including above morris_gray,
I've encountered this myself with my first generation M-Audio Axiom 25 USB MIDI Controller plugged into a MacBook using GarageBand (G2 apparently has identical malfunction).
It should be noted that I never installed any type of software for the device, that came with the device. I simply wanted a controller for GarageBand, and I will also note that it has worked flawlessly for about 4 years on this setup, until about a week ago...

I'll provide what information I have gathered about the blank LCD screen issue as well as the controller simply not functioning correctly as listed below:
The most common way people test/fix this is to "hard reset":
- turn controller off (assuming you've kept the usb cable connected to your computer)
- hold down both the + and - buttons directly below the lcd, and simply turn the power on. Some numbers should appear on the lcd soon after the reboot and you are okay to release said buttons...
I've read testimonials, watched videos of people doing this and successfully getting their device back in action, though the reset will default anything you have saved for the device.

Sadly, this did not work on mine. I've tried several different cables- in several different usb ports- on several different computers (as suggested by M-Audio on their support page. I still get a lit up but blank lcd. I've even tried to still use it but only some awful noises come out and nearly every function just makes the thing freak out and it becomes silent/unusable/useless.
M-Audio suggests sending it back to them for fixing at this point.
Because I've had my Axiom 25 Gen. 1 for so long and I have never installed anything what so ever that came in the box, and have little faith that M-Audio will replace mine, I will most likely try to take it apart and mess around with the electronics inside as it's just a big paperweight now.
I did read that in the Gen. 1's the blank lcd could be a result of a chip gone wrong, so to speak... Gen. 2's had some type of "grounding" issue that resulted in the blank lcd and such.
I hope this helps anyone, if I stumble upon a way to fix this through my own curiosity I will inform the masses...
I'll be on the hunt for a new controller most likely and it probably wont be an M-Audio...not that I'm upset with the product, it lasted me quite a while and I've made a lot of solid songs/music with it, but rather I feel the need for something different and maybe a little more sturdy that can actually be a synthesizer on its own, not just a controller.
