Crosley CA10WXP Air Conditioner Logo

After running the A/C for a couple of hours and after a period of rain, I took the air conditioner out of the window. Probably one or two pints of water emptied on the floor. there is an open vent on top of the box on the outdoor side and no visable way to drain water. How do I eliminate the water problem? Thanks, Steve

Hi,
Many of the newer A/C window units do not drain the water, but use the fan to splash it up on the coil to evaporate it and help cool the unit...
You can drill a hole in the back corner to drain it, but watch that you don't hit the coil and cause a freon leak...this also may reduce the efficiency a bit...

Breaker keeps tripping on outside air conditioner unit

The compressor is probably drawing to many amps. Breaker could be weak also.. Need to check the amp draw on the compressor.

If the breaker is hot when it blows, the compressor is probably going bad.

There is a lever on my window unit, i'm not really sure what it's for but when it rained the rain come in throught the air conditioner. should that lever be pulled out or pushed in

It is for out side air,but rain is not supposed to come threw it,remove the unit from the window and clean it out, there is most likely trash in the unit making the rain water run in the house.

Why do most window air conditioners have vents on top - would not rain get in and ruin something? Should I be concerned?

Thee window air conditioners are designed to keep the rain water on the outside. There are no components that the rain can get to damage anything.

A lot of rain came in through the unit and now it won't run.

bad installation, no there is not a fuse, if the unit has digital controls they are probably fried, if it has the old style turn knobs you probably have shorted the run capacitorwhich can be in a few places but usually low in the unit, just look around, unplug of course and take apart make sure capacitor is not swollen

How can I determine if the ac is removing the correct amount of moisture from the air?

tech answer is:3 pints of water per hour per 1 ton of cooling.
General rule of thumb is 20-25% of the capacity of the unit is devoted to dehumidifying.
If unit runs constantly and the temp really does not seem to be effected, unit is probably too small. If unit runs and cycles off frequently, i.e. short run times, and humidity is high, unit is too big.

    Hope this helps

    Air conditioner

If the air flow is restricted or partially blocked (dirty cooling fins, filter etc), ice will form inside becaue the air stays in ithe cooling coil or fils for a long period of time. Lack of freon will not cause Ice formation because there is not enough cooling power.
