Try running it through with just water and no dishes. It should drain then. and if that doesnt work, power it down and restart the dishwasher.

Doesn't drain

If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER COMMON CAUSES:
H Drain impeller. The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.
Drain Solenoid Kit. The drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve. The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced.
Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer. If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug needs to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.
Check Valve. The check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.
Check Ball. The check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Pump and Motor Assembly If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

hi Richardcr1.
After having examined many dishwashers that were replaced because they wouldn't drain, the largest percentage of them were simply because of a clogged drain hose or pump strainer. Too many people seem to think that the dishwasher is first cousin to a garbage disposal. It is not.30 Apr 2010

FDW60 has standing water in the bottom and will not fill up

You most likely have a stubborn clog in your kitchen drain. Try filling the sinks with warm soapy water and then letting the water drain while also turning on your garbage disposal. Sometimes the extra water pressure will help push the clog through.

Dishwasher wont drain water

hello there,
A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.

Water standing in Dishwasher

Hello buzzy220,
If you have water remaining in the bottom of your dishwasher then I would check the following:
  1. The drain filter screen is free from food byproducts that might limit drainage.
  2. The drain line exiting the dishwasher itself.. is it kinked or clogged?
  3. If your drain line is plumbed into a garbage disposal side entry, is that clogged or your house drain clogged?
  4. Is your dishwasher pump contaminated with sediment or anything that would limit its ability to pump?
  5. Are the water lines that come into or out of the pump blocked, damaged or restricting water flow?
Those are the main reasons areas of concern to investigate.. BTW, your drain line exitting the dishwasher should be routed up high and down into your sink drain system or thru the garbage disposal tap so that you have an air gap as 20YRSEXP was inquiring about..

You can run a simple test to verify all this..
Detach your drain hose from the house drain system ( from the garbage disposer or sink drain.. then route that into a rubber barrel ( be sure to keep part of the house up around the height of the countertop when you do this.. )... You should see a fairly robust flow of drain water into it when the system functions properly.. I would encourage you to run this test with no dishes inside it,.. This test will tell you if the restriction is in the dishwasher or house drain side..
Hope this helps you..
Regards,
Rick
