Enable WPA-PSK How do I enable WPA-PSK on my DI-524, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-624S, DI-774, and DI-784 wireless routers?

You should download and read manual pages covering Using the Configuration Menu that begins on page 10. Securing your wireless is detailed starting on page 12 for WEP, page 13 for WPA (only if you have a Radius Server - most likely not) and page 14 for WPA-PSK.

Nearly all devices support the older WEP encryption method. The downside is that it is easily defeated with software in under 10 minutes. A much better, more robust method is WPA-PSK. It can not be defeated (yet). If you choose WPA-PSK, any device that you connect wirelessly to this router MUST support WPA-PSK as well, otherwise it will NOT be able to connect.

You need to log into the wireless router either by a computer that successfully connects wirelessly or by physically connecting with an ethernet cable. Once connected, log into the router by open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari), and typing the router's address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the Address (or URL) line. The default usernameand password is usually "admin" & "admin" or "admin" & "password". Once successfully logged in, look for a tab or link that says "Wireless" or "Security". You'll be able to change whether security is enabled or disabled, and the password associated with it. Your security options are WEP or WPA (or WPA-PSK). WPA-PSK is the most secure, but WEP is also an acceptable choice. Select the security option of your choice and either enter text into the passphrase generator or choose your own password and type it into one of the security key text fields. If you use a password that is not a plain english combination of letters and numbers, be sure to write it down so that you can enter it as needed on other wireless devices that need to access your router (ie-pda phones, game consoles, laptops, desktops, etc). Be sure to save changes so that the security settings and password is saved.

Try to set up an IP reservation for your ethernet using the MAC address of your NIC, this way the router can't steal it for the WLAN.

Mkae sure that if the router is run as a DHCP server that there are suffcient on IP address range to allow extra PC's to be leased an IP address.

I suggest that you disable in WZCSVC on both your wired PC and wireless PC and use the laptops own NIC connection software and the routers WEP or WPA-PSK to allow you to connect your wireless

then you need to login on your router. connect to it with the routers ip address and login with usr: admin and pwd admin, then go to system and change password.

It looks like the 524 will support WPA-PSK.

hey,, log into the router (check you router manual for instructions on how to do this) normally it involves going to internet explorer, typing the router ip. logginmg into the router with the username and password.

now find and enable these security features.

1.) under wireless look for WPA-PSK this is like a password to connect to the network. follow the user manual for instructions on doing this or the help located on the router config screen. basically it involves turning it on, typing a password, confirmning it and rebooting the router.

2.) MAC address filters. locates under advanced and filters. enable it, select the mac address u want to axcess the router and only enable them.

thats it your done.. the WPA=PSK is enough to secure it, but i use both to prevent wardrivers and other lamers.

I will lend a hand if I can. To secure your wireless router, there are four main steps to take:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection
2) Change the router login password
3) Change the network name (SSID)
4) Enable WPA encryption (this is where you set up a security password or network key).

Here are some details:

1) Login to your router, using a wired (Ethernet) connection.
Make sure you have a cabled connection to your router. Then open a web browser, and type the router’s IP address into the address bar. The default for this router is http://192.168.0.1 – if this doesn’t work, please come back and I will help you find the correct address.

Enter username and password at the prompt. For this router, the defaults are username: admin and password is left blank. If you have set your own login password, please enter this.

If successful, you should now see your router configuration screen.

2) Change the router login password.
If you haven’t set a router login password, this is a good place to start.

Go to Tools > Admin. Set and confirm new user and administrator passwords. Make sure these are not easy to guess, or another user could login to your router and view/change your settings.

Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

Tip: write the login password on a label and stick it to your router.

3) Change the SSID (network name):
The SSID or Network Name is the name you see when you are looking for an ‘available wireless network’.

To change this, go to Home > Wireless. Change the SSID from the default, to anything you like. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters – but do not use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable WPA (or WEP) encryption.
This is achieved within the same screen as the SSID. Use the dropdown box under ‘Network Authentication’ to select WPA-PSK, if available. ( I don’t know the exact version number of your router, so you may not have WPA as an available option.)

If you can use WPA, the next step is to enter a network key. Select key type ‘Passphrase’ and enter your network key under ‘Pre-Shared Key’.

The network key should be a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers - eg, 451ThisisGooDFunforgEeks7899. It is case sensitive. If you think your connection is likely to be hacked, pick a very strong network key.

Note down your network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply’ when finished. (Please note that the network key may also be known as WPA-PSK, WPA Shared Key, PSK, Security key, Passphrase, Pre-shared key, Authentication key, security password.)

That's it - you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

There are further security options to enable if you wish, but these three are the most important.

When you next connect wirelessly, you should see your wireless router with its new name in the 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.
