How do I empty the wastebasket on the Ativa MD 400 shredder?

Hi,

Please make sure that you've emptied the shredder bin because a full bin can stop further shredding. Also, cleaning the shredder teeth to stop paper jams would be good as well.

3. Switch the shredder to "reverse" and plug it back in. ...
4. If the shredder jams in reverse, switch back to auto/forward. ...
5. Reduce the thickness of your load before re-shredding.

Double check that you do not still have any paper that may have become stuck in front of the sensor for the auto shutoff. If there is something in front of the sensor it will keep running.

In case of a paper jam , which may occur if the shredder is pushed beyond its specified capabilities, press the control switch to the off [O] position and empty the basket if full. Then:
1) Press and hold control switch in reverse [R] position and attempt to back paper out of shredder.
2) If shredder jams in reverse mode, press control switch to automatic [I] position and attempt to continue shredding operation.
3) If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between reverse [R] and automatic [I] positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through shredder.
If you are unable to clear the jam using this method, turn off and unplug the shredder; remove the wastebasket from cabinet and carefully remove any paper extending below the cutting cylinders; empty the wastebasket; insert wastebasket and repeat jam clearing procedure.

The misalignment message is about the catch bin and the shredder! NOT THE TEETH!
Check to make sure the shredder is properly placed on the catch bin. There is a built in safetymechanism in the Ativa MD460. When the shredder is replaced "backwards" the safety pin is not tripped.
Look for a curve in the lip on the back of the shredder and align it with the bin. Worse case, just pick up the heavy shredder top, turn the unit around 180 degrees and put back down. My light came onimmediately.

I have a Ativa MD 1000 that I just bought. It ran for a few minutes the first time I used it an then stopped. I turned it off and unplugged it in case it had overheated. The temperature light did not come on. I wait for over 30 minutes and tried using it again. I was able to shred a couple of sheets of paper and it stopped again. The next morning I couldn't get it to work at all. The green ready light is on but the shredder will not start. I can't tell if anything is stuck in it. How do I getting running?

if still do not run follow the next steps:
1. Make sure shredder is plugged in and

2.Wait 15 minutes for shredder to cool
down before trying again.
3.make sure that the shredder head is in the correct position, if is not it will not run
