The common joke acronym for "BMW" is Break My Wallet. BMWs are very nice cars but they are somewhat complex and quite expensive to maintain.
Take the car to an auto parts store such as Autozone. They have an OBDII code reader that can reset (clear) the error code. If the code does not come back on, then you're good to go, However, if it does come back on then the fix is have it serviced.
I would take it in to the dealer and ask them for an estimate of costs and if you think it's too much then perhaps find an independent shop to do the work (rather than the dealership).
make sure proper fluid and level is rite--evrything is computer based on todays trans--may need a download of new programs-its like an upgrade--------get a data stream run on entire car--go to an independent shop that has factory gear--dealers stuf is out of date-they only hav software for recent models
The diagram you have is a start.
Right hand side is all you need of it.
Start from the bottom, removing the blind plate firstly, #24 & #26.
Pull out HVC, and follow the order in reverse.
Do not use a screw driver to pry anything out, utilise a flat blade with a thin covering of material. The coating on these components is a rubber like paint, and once scratched peels back with every touch.
Most screws with have a star like screw head, a flat blade screwdriver at the right size will un do them.
A cracked block can happen on a vehicle with 100 miles. Its all about what happened to the motor. The only way to crack a block is over heating and mechanical breakdown inside the engine.
sorry, don't know that one, but google BMW 545i coil removal and see what you get. Also, be careful getting the plugs out as some are often corroded in place due to aluminum/steel chemical reaction. Sometimes it takes an impact wrench to jar them back and forth a little at a time to get them out. Use high temp anti sieze on the new plug threads if you want to get them out again later. good luck.
The battery location for a 2005 BMW 545i is in the trunk. Open your trunk, and on the right side of the car (passenger), look for two black plastic screws (flathead fit) along the paneling. Use a flathead (from the tool kit amongst the trunk lid), or a paper-clip to turn both of these plastic screws 90 degrees, you should be able to pull these out with your fingers afterwards. The plastic screws hold in the protective paneling, you'll have to to lift up trunk-liner (covers your spare tire), then pull the paneling outwards; underneath, you'll find the battery and terminals.
