No, you don't need VGA cables, those are video only and typically used with a computer, and an audio cable will definitely be needed. If this is being connected to a computer, your computer may not be able to send the digital audio down the Hdmi cable. If this is being used with a dvd or flu-ray, you may need to check the menu settings on both the tv and the player to see if audio is being delivered via hdmi. Also, not all Hdmi cables can carry audio channels, cheaper ones won't (dime store variety), but most should..

I have HDMI laptop and Dell 1706FPVT 17" VGA monitor. I have VGA to HDMI cable and I connected the cable between these two machines but it is not working. Solution, please.

First of, a little bit of explanation.
VGA = analogue
HDMI = digital

The answer seems to be in your question.
it reads "VGA to HDMI". These cables or adapters doesn't work the other way around. I am guessing your cable can only support vga output to HDMI input. And your setup is HDMI output from your computer to vga input to your monitor.
Solution:
Try and find HDMI to VGA cable or adapter. This is expensive.
If your computer has a vga output, use this with vga to vga. You won't get a better resolution by using HDMI to vga.
Or are you stuck with only HDMI output?
There are adapters for USB to VGA too. This could be less expensive. I have one for my friends Apple Air. I am not a "i" fan so I do not have much experience on Apple.

Hope this helps.

Using with a laptop

Connection the monitor depends on the connections you have out of your Toshiba laptop.

The monitor has both VGA and DVI.

If the Toshiba has a VGA out, all you need is a VGA cable available online, computer or electronics store.

If the Toshiba has an HDMI out, you can connect it to the DVI on the monitor with an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI Adapter.

You can also use USB out with either a VGA converter or a DVI converter (go with DVI for the better picture). Converters can be found online at Amazon, you may also need a standard male to male DVI cable to use with the converter.

How to connect laptop to vga projector?

you need a cable. it may be the one that usually connects a computer to a monitor = depending what the input is on the projector but it sounds like an ordinary monitor cable as projector is VGA ( the other type has a digital input at one end ;but Im pretty sure thats not it.) If you have another computer set up just borrow the monitor cable and try it. There's already an input for one end in your laptop if its ok buy an extra cable

Have a new AOC 2436 VH monitor all hooked up and there is no sound. very frustrating can you help.

Vga does not provide sound over the cable. For sound to go to your monitor, you need to use the hdmi cable and only the hdmi cable. Also, make sure your computer volume is turned up.

How do i connect my adventt9101 to my sony lcd tv, i want to use hdmi leads but i dont think my pc has hdmi port? any help

If you don't have an HDMI connection on your computer, then you will need to get a VGA cable. There should be a VGA connection on your tv. Just disconnect the monitor on your computer and connect the VGA cable from the computer monitor port to the VGA port on the tv. You may have to set the tv for PC or Aux input. You won't have high definition or sound to the tv with a VGA cable though. The sound will still come through your PC speakers.

LG W2361V 23 Vga to HDMI Cable Not Working

You have a cable problem as no such thing as a VGA to HDMI cable exists.

HDMI is a didital signal and is thus not compatable with an anolog VGA signal. HDMI to DVI cables however do exist as both are digital signals.

Hope this helps.

How do I hook up the moniter to the CPU?

First figure out what output video the computer has. These days it can be VGA, DVI, or HDMI. Then determine what video inputs are on the monitor (same list). Then plug in the desired cable. Many monitors only come with the VGA cable. If you do not have a VGA port on the computer you would need a DVI to VGA adapter to use that cable. Otherwise buy the DVI or HDMI cable. (DVI to HDMI cables exist if you have HDMI but no DVI on the monitor and only DVI on the computer. However, you need to check your video specs closely. A Single link DVI is different than Dual-link DVI and the cables are not interchangeable.)

Once the data and power cords are plugged in, power up the monitor and then the computer. The computer should find the new hardware and install (or ask for a disc to install) the drivers.

I hope this helps.

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals
