    Any DVD (burned, new, etc.) that I put in the machine will not play. Instead, I hear an intermittent squeaking noise, and the screen displays "Reading"

    I have the exact same problem with my Panasonic portable dvd player-- was working fine for years and now suddenly it gets stuck on "Reading" and the dvd no longer spins. Is it the spindle motor?

Some suggestions assuming you know you're using good discs, and have this problem with more then 1 disc. In anything that requires you to open the player and play around in it, I also assume you're not too akward with electronics, and out of warranty: spindle motor problems - you could either fix that by changing the motor, or occasionaly by dropping a little bit of 3 in 1 oil on the shaft. Just dont start it as a hobby if you can still go complain at the store... Good luck

I would say the IC that controls the motor gone bad, if you cant replace it, just bring it back to store.

Player does not read disc-code HO3

I followed a few, of the already suggested answers. The first one I tried was to open up the back and use compressed air to blow out lint, food crumbs and dog hair that had found there way into the machine. This seem to have worked just fine. Now the machine is working, much to my daughters delight.

Panasonic Portable dvd/cd player model #DVD-LS90 The player turns on and tries to read the DVD. However, it no longer spins so the DVD cannot be read.

Hi,

Two possibilities:
  • the laser eye (lens) is dirty, weak or defective. The unit no longer can sense that a disc is present and therefore will not initiate servo motor engagement. Pls try cleaning;
  • the spindle motor is weak or defective. This might be of additional information.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Panasonic Portable DVD Player LS50

Can you see or hear that the disk is spinning up normally as it did before? I understand that the small, spin-motors on these portables often go bad.

Portable DVD player won't read discs.

There are 2 errors, ho3 and ho2, I can't remember which one is which. One means the laser is going and one means it's a dirty track. I suggest you first very gently clean the lens. If that doesn't work you take apart the player and clean the whole track that the laser moves on along with everything around it (keeping in mind that the laser is fragile). If that doesn't work than I can't help anymore without seeing it.
