AM 35 Amplifier problem Dear Fixya I ma using two technics turntables into Vestax PMC 25 powered by Akai AM 35 amp. The amp Balance switch between left and right is not working. Also the amp volume needs to be turned up to Volume 30 in order for the sound to be audible. There is a little bit of distortion from speakers also. Mixer volume is all set fine and not in the red. Is this easily fixed or is it just an old age problem? thanks Anthony

From your description, I would guess that the output stage of the amp is not working properly. Rather than the outputs being shorted (the most common failure), the output transistors appear to be open. This basically means that you are attempting to drive the speakers with a "pre-amp" section. This could be a power supply problem or defective transistors. An examination of the last stage of the amp is needed here. If the outputs are open, the parts cost will be in the $40-$60 range. Power supply repairs will likely be in the $20-$40 range for parts.

Hope this helps a bit.

Dan

Noise , sounds like ungrounded, all the cables are fine , the connection is grounded

so its a buzzing noise. are your turntables grounded? some dont have to be. the buzzing could be several things feedback from something around you or the mixer is buzzing cause of to much power. just mess around w stuff your not gonna break it. and what i mean about that is more wires check wires. dont preform open heart surgery on your equptment. sometimes the buzzing means the faders are going i own 3 vestax mixers and on my pmc 17a right before the faders went i had massive buzzing sound.

Power cord get really hot.

If mixer is working properly, check the rating of the adapter versus what the unit requires. Some sites indicate this requires a 12 volt adapter rated at 1.2 amps.

The right output channel on the right side of my pmc 05 pro 4 has very low output. I can hear both right and left output channels in the headphones when I have the cue selected but when I try to monitor...

I assume you swapped thee output leads as well as the inputs which you di mention, to verify you amps and cables...
The Vestax schematic I have is NOT your same model, but the companies often re-use circuitry. In the schematic I have it appears that the two channels go through two levels of NJM2068L op amps.
In these two levels there is both a master gain control. It is important to know whether the gain control varies the output level of the right, even if it is low. Also in this gain control area is a master balance pot which varies the ratio of the left and right and is CAPABLE of taking either channel to near zero output... IF you have that control check it for sure !!! The pot is a dual employing both an A taper and C taper which is a reverse of the A.
The right tool for troubleshooting this is an oscilloscope, but first an inspection looking for board cracks around the output and pot area is in order.

Need to change the fuse in a vestax pmc

Sorry, since the mixer is powered by a "wall wart" adapter, it is UNLIKELY there are fuses in the unit.

If it is inoperative, then check the voltage of your power adapter. If you by chance connected a wrong adapter, try the correct one. It is possible damage was done in this case that is not so easily fixed as changing a fuse. The correct adapter looks to be a type AC14 which LOOKS to be a 15 volt DC, 500 ma, with negative on the pin.

Older vestax mixer PMC-25 has power surge and cuts out. If you bang the mixer sound returns but same problem keeps happening?

If you bang anything electrical and it restores it then chances are you have a bad solder joint somewhere. Out with the soldering Iron and start looking for a bad connection!

Is a Vestax VR-3S cartridge compatible with a Technics 1200 turntable?

HI!
I understand the Vestax VR-3S cartridge is moving magnet (magnetic). Provided it is wired correctly there should be no problems. Any magnetic cartridge will be compatible.

Vestax PMC 05 PRO MIXER master output is not working

More than likely the output PCB might be faulty, or the signal amp might be damaged. In either case, not an easy fix. As for service in the UK, try HARD TO FIND RECORDS - they have a pretty good service dept.
