try using another speaker for the center channel and the left speaker, also watch your ohm load, most of the want a 4 ohm load. try to narrow it down to see if it is the speaker or the amp.
This is a typical problem with TV broadcast UNLESS you use a matrix DSP surround sound mode, most DVD audio is either Dolby digital 5.1 surround or DTS multi-channel surround sound, unless you are viewing a HDTV broadcast with 5.1 Digital sound connected from the TV to the receiver then you are probably receiving a 2 channel Stereo sound format, I would suggest that you try to set your TV input mode to a audio Dolby Pro- Logic which will yield 5.1 and should engage all speakers.
Make Sure the correct sound filed is being used refer to owners manual and the program is true surround also the surround speakers will only give background noise not a full channel
all your speaker channels are working so your problem lies with a setup fault. when you watch tv you are only feeding a stereo signal into the amp. you need to select the internal surround sound generator. you need to select either the movie or surround function. the unit will convert the stereo signal to 5.1 channel surround.
To upmix 2-channel sound (such as that in a TV broadcast) into 5.1 sound, press AMP and then SUR. DECODE until "PL II Movie" is displayed. This will give you "cinema-like" surround sound from a 2-channel source.
You can also assign this to one of your "Scenes" by following the procedure for scene assignment on page 26 of your manual.
