I have a Lexmark X4550 and it has started printing a series of black bands horizontially through my documents

take the cartridges out and clean them also clean where they go with a lint free cloth then replace them.

I purchased this Lexmark x4550 wireless printer. How do I install ink cartridges? Nowhere is this documented.

Try the "better" or "best" print options - They give more ink - might do the trick - (beware it also prints a lot more slowly....)

I have not had that type of problem as such as both my ink slots work, but I did have purple/bluish print instead of black once - It worked for me -

Are you using a Lexmark factory new cartridge or a re-filled / third party cartridge. If the answer is that you are using re-filled or a third party cartridge that is your failure. Lexmark does not support the use of these products in there products. In fact, use of these type of products is considered to be -product tampering and will cause Lexmark to void the printer's warranty. Please do not shoot the messenger for the contents of the message.
