the motor is suppose to stop when the door opens and turns on when closing the noise could be ice building up and the fun blade rubbing the ice if unit is empty you should leave the unit disconnected so ice melts and noise will go away when reconnecting if no motor replacement is needed.
Check you hinges and make sure one is not broken. Sounds like it is. Compare your drivers door to the passenger door to see if you notice any difference in the number of hinges, as the center one may have gone into the door so you won't know it's missing uless you compare.
Most door catches also incorporate a switch that stops the machine when you open the door. In "over closing" the door you may have "gone past" the switch which would likely make the controler think that the door was open. Try giving the door a firm but steady pull to release the mechanism.
It is either stuck or jammed but try to use a paper clip in the emergency open hole. If your drive doesn't have a small emergency opening hole on the front of it, try to pull open the door, being careful not to break the plastic. The noise you hear is the gears for opening and closing the door.
When you open your door you will see a flat bar that slides into the door while opening and closing. It is located between the two door hinges. There is a rubber on the door where the flat bar slides in and out, remove that rubber and you will see little rollers in the door, those rollers need to be oiled, preferably with engine oil. Oil the rollers and work the doors back and forth, the noise should abate.
Most of the time this noise is heard when a temperature actuator has gone bad, you can check this by changing temperatures and noting if the noise changes in sound. If so then replaced the actuator. If no change is noted, then open and lower the glove box and while changing from a/c to max a/c, check that the recirculation door is moving into place and not flapping. if flapping, the recirculation door is broken and will need replacement.
The door switch is designed to turn off the dispenser control when the door is open and the light comes on. Pressing the switch with the door open turns on the dispenser controls and the sounds of relays and solenoid coils would be normal unless it is affecting your dispenser or ice maker.
