I have a Tascam MF-P01 portastudio. i am receiving sound from track 2 and 3 , but no sound from track 1 and 4, track 4 has not had sound coming from it for a year though most importantly i can no longer use and hear anything from track 1. Does this mean the output is now knackered if so can i repair it? I have had this tape recorder for about 4 years.

SOURCE: Tascam MF-P01 recorder

Hi

I have found Tascam to be an excellent provider of service and spares over the years. Parts can be purchased through a Tascam Authorised Service center. Or you can generally deal direct with them if you are repair guy. You can find one near to you at this site. . Enter your state if you are in the USA, or select the region you are in at the top of the web page where it says global, and away you go. If you have any problems sorting it out, feel free to get back to me and I will help you as best I can. A FixYa is a great reward for helping you to source your part. Cheers

Tascam MF-P01 recorder - hearing nothing during play back

Mine also would not play back on any of the channels but would record. The problem was on the lower board, capacitors C105, C205, C305 and C405, all are 220uF, rated at 10V - on a 9V machine! All four went leaky, which meant that the op-amps each were connected to got a bias which drove the output to 8.5V and no output.
I replaced all four capacitors with new ones rated at 25V and it works again!

Want to copy files from Tascam 788 to IMAC's Garage Band

The problem is thus. You have a multitrack recording saved in a format that your portastudio recognizes and you want to use it on your imac. If you can copy the file to the imac as a file, a translator, if one is available, will make it usable by the mac. You won't be able to play it and record on the imac because maintaining the recording as multitrack would require one output from the portastudio and one input on the imac for each recorded track.
Bummer dude. The kluge method would be to play/record 2 tracks at a time (or however many outputs and inputs are available) and hope for some semblance of time alignment, after which you can fine tune it and then start your editing.

Tascam 2488 Portastudio

To record the eight inputs onto 8 separate tracks at once simply plug your mics or other audio sources into the mic inputs (only 4 can be powered, A-E) and then assign each input to a separate track by pressing the input button which corresponds to one input and then the select button for the desired target track at the same time. Do this for all eight inputs and their target tracks. Then arm all eight tracks to record by pressing the record buttons on each (the red lights will come on). Then when you press play and record in the transport section (or use punch operations) you will record all eight inputs to all eight tracks at the same time.

Good luck.
