Menu appears by itself. Sometimes stays on, sometimes comes on and then off. Also, some of the light touch buttons stay on and you cannot turn the TV on with a remote.

Menu screen comes on and sometimes stays on. Sometimes it goes off and then comes back on. The light touch buttons come on -- stay on, and you cannot turn on the TV without pushing the power button on the set itself.

Just bought a 42 inch LG LCD TV and my menu screen appears and disappears on it's own. Sometimes it stays for a long period of time others it doesn't. I called service and they said it was not a remote issue and told me my coils were burnt out. I wondered how it could be since I just bought the tv. The repair guy said they don't make tv's the way they used to and ordered the part. 2 weeks later, LG has yet to deliver the part to the service place.

The Black menu screen comes on without any legends, and stays until you use a button on the remote, then it disappears for a few minutes, and returns again

Yes! comes and goes. Good description. I'm on Charter cable in Los osos, Ca. Today, 9 Dec, the black rectangle has text saying http://www.starz.com with various characters following. I've complained to Charter both by email and phone and they say it has to be a problem with my set. Glad to see others are having the same problem only because it means it's not my TV. I can delete the box momentarily by off/on. Another way is by hitting the PIP(picture in picture) button which causes it to momentarily go away. ????

The setup screen appears each time we turn the TV on. However once I hit the enter button it will disappear. Is there a way to eliminate the setup screen from appearing? This has not happened before

  • jeslar360 Feb 08, 2008

Every time I turn this TV off, it resets itself. Examples:

    1) It brings up the Initial Setup menu
    2) The V-CHIP pass code is set to default.
    3) Channel memory is wiped.

It does not matter if I turn it Off / On using the remote, or if I do it from the unit itself. All I know, is that this thing is brand new, just purchased within the last 3 hours, and already it is having more trouble than I care to deal with.

I find this troubling. I have come to respect this brand, but lately everything I have gotten has not been worth the space it takes up.

I need to know how to fix it, and I need to know now.

Blank menu box appears after 2-3 seconds and stays on unless we keep the "rolling" pip scan on the bottom of the screen or adjust anything on the remote. (about a 10 yr old 36" Toshiba) Tried a universal remote without the batteries in the TOSHIBA remote - no change in problem. Since it just a started haven't tried professional service yet.

  • Arun Prakash Dec 20, 2008

Menu seems to appear randomly. Sometimes it goes off by itself and some times even if it is switched off and switched back ON it doesn't go away. It does not seem to be a remote problem since I have tried to test it with the TV On/Off button.

This could be a leaky menu switch on the TV. Turn on the TV, unplug the conrol cable and see if the problem goes away. Obviously you took the back off the TV first. If so, replace the menu switch. Ive seen this problem in many off makes and models of tv sets with buttons on the front of the set.. What happens is the plastic bitton that makes contact with the switch inside the set on the PCB will sometimes crack on one side internally and hit the switch and cause the switch to bounch so it seems theres an intermittant problem like the menu comes up if theres any type of vibration or the volume will shoot up and so on.. Now if it seems to do it without walking about the set it could also be something got inside the set like a little liquid or something and the contacks are coroded on the bottom side of the pcv as well as the switch. The best way tell is a look at the PCB at the switch location and with the buttons just hit each one at a time to see if theres a consistancy with all the switches

Sounds like a remote problem. Take off the batteries and see if it will happen again. If not, open the remote, clean it inside, and look for something loose there... If it is not the remote, call for service.

Your model has a maximum resolution of 720p. What you might want to do is make sure that both your cable/sat box and game stations are outputting at no more than 720 resolution. It's easy to assume that all HDTVs may accept a higher signal, and while they might, some of the scene changes or handshakes may make that operation cause the symptoms you describe.

SOURCE: a black box appears on the screen

The close caption feature most be on and you need to disable it to get rid of the black box,the close caption must be set in any mode for the box to come up,maybe text1 or text2.Go thru the menu options until you get to the CC feature, some remotes have a key to bring it up and disable it.Let us know if you need more information.

My ipod touch 4th generations says ipod disabled connect to itunes, but screen is locked

Like all electronic devices, iPods sometimes freeze and become unresponsive. Sometimes iPods lock up when they're dropped on the ground or come in contact with water, but less destructive accidents may also cause them to stop working. All versions of the iPod have a way to reset their hardware should they stop playing music or refuse to turn off.

Check the "Hold" switch on the top case of your iPod to be sure it isn't activated. An iPod will appear frozen and unresponsive if this feature is activated. A lock symbol will appear on your iPod's screen if it is in Hold mode. Switch the "Hold" button on and off once. Place one finger on the "Menu" button and another on the center button. Press both buttons at the same time and hold them for up to 8 seconds. Release the "Menu" and center buttons once the Apple logo appears on your iPod's screen. Try releasing the buttons and pressing and holding them a second time if the logo does not appear, as it can sometimes take several tries to reset a severely frozen iPod. Press and hold the top button and the center "Home" button on a frozen and unresponsive iPod touch to reset it. Hold the buttons for at least 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear on the screen, then release the buttons. Connect your iPod to its powerblock or a computer if it is still frozen. Wait 5 minutes and then try to reset it. Sometimes an iPod can appear frozen when its battery runs out and just needs a few minutes of power to start working again. Hope this helps.

Stupid padlock/main menu keeps opening and closing DELLe152fp

That is the OSD (On Screen Display) system built-in to your computer monitor. Check that when you hit the ON/OFF button on your monitor, that you do *NOT* hit the 'OSD ON/OFF' button.

Most of the time, the OSD will disappear after 10 seconds of "non-use".

Try it without the rechargable battery connected sometimes the battery shorts and causes problems.
Do you have FN[function] keys at the left side. touch FN key with something else and see if screen comes back.Sometimes you can turn off the screen to send it to the back connected monitor.Connect (extra if you have) an external monitor to the back (vga) connector. If that shows, then you have to ""flutzz" with the FN(function) & F1-F12 keys

Does not power stay on

try this with just the ac plugged in and the battery removed. Sometimes the battery, when fully discharged, can cause the system to shut down.
