You could also take the battery out ,get a 12 volt bulb connected to two wires.connect to the battery and leave it to drain.then put the battery back in and charge you could do the whole thing in less than an hour.
this isn't to say the first solution is wrong in fact its the correct way to do it .my way is just quicker

"Calibrating" a laptop battery is one way to increase the lifespan of a battery that doesn't last long. The procedure involves two steps: fully discharging the battery, then then fully charging it immediately thereafter. It's important to note that a full discharge doesn't mean you drain your battery until your computer powers off, but rather that you deplete it until it reaches a level of approximately 3 percent capacity, according to BatteryCare.com.

1. Charge the laptop battery to 100 percent. Allow the laptop to sit plugged-in and fully-charged for approximately two hours.

2. Click the "Battery" icon in the lower, right corner of the Windows Taskbar and click "More Power Options." Click "Change When the Computer Sleeps," then click "Change Advanced Power Settings."

3. Scroll down to "Battery" and click the "Plus Sign" icon next to it. Click "Critical Battery Level," then click the arrow to decrease the number to "3." Click "Apply," then click "OK."

4. Unplug your laptop and continue using the computer until it reaches 3 percent, at which point it hibernates automatically. Allow the computer to hibernate for at least five hours, then plug it in and allow it to recharge fully.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

Had this tablet for one day, its showing 50% .. battery, when should I recharge..

There's no harm in keeping it on charge all the time. Unlike older rechargeables, newer Li-ion batteries don't need to be broken in by running them down and then recharging.

My proscan tablet is saying battery with

meaning the battery is deffective....it cannot be charged..i suggest use a power bank...if you do not want to open your tablet and replace the battery...use powerbank instead. it is quite bulky and heavy, but it is worth using...when buying powerbanks, look for the highest mAh rating..Mah means miliampere hour...or the discharge value...the higher the value, the longer the time the battery is discharged

A samsung galaxy player 3.6 that wont turn on

The charger has a function that restores the battery operation parameters by discharging then charging the battery a number of times. Refer to charging instructions in the pack but I think the cycle is a 3 hourly one, time to charge from a full discharge. If the charger thinks the battery is dead then it will try to recover the battery using this process. You may have left the charger on long enough to charge then also discharge the battery.
Start again and charge for the time in the instructions ONLY, if you are not sure of the time try it for an hour, then without disconnecting the charger turn the unit on and take particular note of any screen messages, if any.
You should be able to continue as normal now, but still be aware of the time you are leaving the charger connected for, as it may take some time before it returns to normal operation and stops trying to recover what it thinks is a dead battery.

Tablet won't stay powered with out being plugged in

I have seen this several times now. It is usally do to 1 or 2 things that you can try to resolve this. The first issue is that these tablets are very battery eaters and you need to charge it for atleast 24hrs with power cable before you activate it. The USB cable will only keep the tablet charged if u have a good 50precent charge in it first. I have had the WI FI discharge a full battery in 2hrs plug in to the usb. The power adpter needs to be used when u can or it will discharge the batt unless u power down the unit not just let it go to sleep.
Go to the settings tab..then to battery..and u can see what the rate of discharge is ..ie..wifi and wallpaper and idle all can be adjusted to max battery life and make sure you turn it off when u can.
Hope this helps.

Samsung battery wont charge need to reset it

If the cell phone battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.
